A guide to the art of queueing for day tickets, from a Wicked fangirl!
Day tickets are awesome. You get a seat to see your fave show for next to nothing, hurrah! But day ticket queues are unpredictable things, so here’s a How To guide from someone who considers herself a seasoned pro.
* It’s almost impossible to say what time to get there. I have arrived at day ticket queues at 7am and no-one else has turned up until 8.30. I’ve also arrived at 7am and been tenth in line. It’s really difficult to say when to show but my advice would be: earlier rather than later, weekdays will be less popular then weekends, weekday matinees even more so (because people will be working). Fridays and Saturday will be VERY busy.
* Bring something warm, and something to do. London at 7am is usually pretty chilly, no matter what day of the year it is. You’re going to be sitting outside on the ground for three hours, dress practically if you can! And bring something to do - a book, an iPod etc. but I recommend...
* Talk to your neighbours! Everyone here has come to see the same show, you will have a lot in common! You might even make some new friends! And when you come back to the theatre later in the day you may even be sitting by them. Day ticket queues are awesome places to meet people. Plus finding a friend can be useful so someone can go off for a coffee run/go for a pee! Which bring me on to...
* Don’t hold places in the queue for other ticket buying friends who will show up later. If you’re buying a ticket for you and a friend and your friend rocks up later to come hang out with you, that’s fine (although you may want to say to the people next to you “it’s ok, she’s not buying any tickets we’re just hanging out!”). However, please don’t don’t don’t save a place in the queue at 7am, only to have two of your friends who are ALSO buying two tickets come and join you at 9am. THIS IS NOT OK!! Your friends can buy tickets but they’re gonna have to go to the back of the queue just like everyone else.
* Know how you’re going to pay. Make sure you have a card or cash for your tickets. Make sure you know how much they are and how you’re going to pay for them. Theatres like to process day ticket queues as fast as possible, so make sure you have the means to pay with you.
* Have an awesome time! I love doing day ticket queueing because I’m a weird little theatre fangirl, and everyone loves a cheap ticket. Day queue properly, day queue sensibly, day queue with all the other theatre fangirls who will now be your new best friends!
(please feel free to add any advice!!)

Sonisphere DAY TICKET Ballot Scheme Announcement
*SONISPHERE DAY TICKET BALLOT SCHEME REVEALED
SIGN UP AT WWW.SONISPHEREFESTIVALS.COM TO ENROL IN THE DAY TICKET POWER BALLOT *
SONISPHERE FESTIVAL organisers have issued the following statement regarding day tickets for the 2011 event:
"In response to an overwhelming number of requests, we have been able to secure permission to put a strictly limited number of day tickets on sale via THE POWER BALLOT scheme. Due to the huge demand for day tickets anticipated, and the limited number that can be made available, we have decided to use a ballot system as we believe it is the fairest way to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to obtain tickets.
Fans should sign up at www.sonispherefestivals.com/uk before 23rd May, when the ballot closes. Successful applicants will be informed which day they can purchase tickets for via email on May 25th. Each customer may purchase up to four tickets for their allocated day. Tickets will be £80/day plus booking fee.
The day splits are listed below, broken down by stage, from the APOLLO and SATURN ARENA stages - timed to ensure no clashes so people can watch every main stage performance - to the BOHEMIA, JAGERMEISTER and RED BULL BEDROOM JAM stages, considerately timed to avoid any painful choices over the course of the weekend.
