Fancasting for Harley Quinn through the years
This is something that's been on my mind for a bit: who's someone I could've seen playing Harley Quinn at different points since her creation, either as a voice or in a live-action capacity (not counting canon projects, but something original)? So I decided to make this list! Lemme know who's your favorite pick below, as well as who you could see playing/voicing her. And disclaimer: I didn't re-use actors, even though I feel like some of them deserved better opportunities, ie Margot Robbie, Lady Gaga, and Erin Richards.
Helena Bonham Carter--I mainly mean this in a live-action capacity, preferably in the 90s, though I know Harley was kinda new for the odds of that happening, but still. She plays mad like no one else, so I'm here for it.
Fairuza Balk--Wasn't there a scrapped "Batman" film where Harley Quinn was supposed to be the Joker's daughter? IDK how I'd feel about the plot (especially if Schumacher was involved), but I feel like Fairouza would've been perfect for the role.
Sarah Michelle Geller--Perhaps it's just the fighter energy she gave from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" or bubbly energy "Scooby-Doo" but I also think she could've been a good Harley as the Joker's daughter.
Nicole Kidman--I mentioned in another post that I think Schumacher's films would've been better if made as PG-13 animated films unrelated to BTAS and Tim Burton's duology, though how production and ideas would've changed is anyone's guess, but an idea I considered was the possibility that given how Harley had become popular in BTAS, perhaps the odds of her appearing in another animated film were possible, and that the character of Chase Meridian may become conflated with her. I always saw Nicole Kidman as a versatile actress, so I'd have loved to see how she'd play Harley.
Emma Stone--Another actress I consider versatile. I would've liked to see how she'd interpret the role and the nuances that come with it.
Tilda Swinton--I consider her more of an avante-garde actress due to her roles, and I feel like she'd be good for a drastically different version of Harley, perhaps one more darker and manipulative, perhaps a version more reliant on her psychological background.
Kesha--Okay, I don't know WHAT capacity she could've done this in the past (I think anything longterm would've interfered with music and legal stuff), but the fact that she played PIZZAZZ of all people, a fancast I had for a LONG TIME, means I should never give up hope!
Natalie Portman--I think this mostly due to her role on "Black Swan," since I think she can capture the more tragic aspect of Harley QUinn in contrast to most of the other actors I chose based on their ability to capture her mania.
Ginnifer Goodwin--Okay, this is more of an acting challenge than an acting recommendation, but I'd love to see her bubbly energy channeled into something twisted and comedic.
Cree Summer--I thought of this when I first heard Kari Wahlgren and mistook her for Cree during previous for "Gotham Knights," but it did make me curious to want to hear her attempts at the character!
Jodi Benson--Maybe it's just because I can see her doing a good Harleen Quinzel, but I'm curious to see how she'd play Harley as well.
Amanda Bearse--SUPER left-field, but if you know her role as Marcy D'arcy/Roades, you'd understand why I'd make the connection with her playing Harley Quinn
Cristina Vee--Again, energy, energy, ENERGY. Though given my experience with Cristina, I'd probably see her being best-suited for a Harley Quinn role in a kids' show; I guess her voice just feels innocent to me.
This was a fun post--I mean, all the ones I make are, but fancasting is a unique kind of fun I don't usually do. I almost included singers, but then I thought of doing a post about a Harley Quinn concept album, but then I scrapped the whole thing. Perhaps I'll do another one for another one of my favorite comic characters!
