I actually quite like that they added Jason Todd in Arkham Knight, even with the fact that they were obviously jamming him in where it was never intended in the bloodiest sloppiest way possible. I always prefer an adaptation be MORE authentic to the source material than not, and just ignoring Jason Todd as the second Robin never sits right with me. And I think all things considered, the concept of the Arkham Knight is a good way to handle the Red Hood storyline in a video game format.

Having said that, the one thing I actually really hate about it is that they changed it so that Jason Todd never died. That's so fucking stupid, like. They spent the ENTIRE previous game establishing Ra's al Ghul and the Lazaris Pit. Why the fuck couldn't they just keep it the same and have Jason die and then get dipped in the pit to be brought back to life? What benefit is there in changing it to Jason having never died, instead spending months or years being tortured and psychologically destroyed by Joker, and then just suddenly show up nine months after the Joker dies having teamed up with Scarecrow and the rest of the people he spent every night beating the shit out of as Robin? That's actually so fucking stupid to me.

The fact that Ra's is in Knight as a fucking walking corpse makes it even dumber - it would have been so easy for them to just say after the events of City Ra's decides to dig up Jason Todd and dump him in the pit out of desperation for wanting an heir since Batman rejected him and Talia is dead. It would make MORE SENSE to use a tweaked version of the comic version of Jason's resurrection. The Lazaris Pit EXISTS and has BEEN ESTABLISHED so it's not like it'd be weird for Jason to be brought back to life by it, and the fact it causes mental instability would make Jason's state of murderous rage DESPITE THE FACT THAT JOKER IS DEAD AND EVERYONE THINKS BATMAN KILLED HIM seem more natural. Like seriously why does Jason want to kill Batman so bad in Knight? Just cuz he's mad he was "abandoned" and "replaced"? Despite the fact he TALKS TO BARBARA when she's kidnapped by Scarecrow and she EXPLAINS TO HIM that that's not what happened? Saying he got fucked up by the Lazaris would go a long way to justifying Jason's murder boner for Bruce. And saying he was only recently revived would solve some timeline issues with the story too. Like, he died and was brought back to life when he's still 15 years old, naturally he's going to be fucked up in the head after that.

Also that's another thing. I REALLY hate that Knight tries to state that Bruce has been Batman for ten years. I blame Arkham Origins for that, since it established Barbara was 15 during the events of that game and I guess god forbid we let that woman hit age 30. But ten years is just.... So NOT enough time??? You're telling me Batman went through THREE ROBINS, one of which went on to become his own superhero independent of Batman and the other of which fucking died and Bruce had time to move on from his death and get a new Robin, in ONLY TEN YEARS?

All of that rich implied history of Batmans crime fighting career we get in Asylum was only over the course of ten years? Barbara was Batgirl for a long enough time to specifically piss off Joker and then she gets crippled and recovers from that enough to become Oracle complete with founding the Birds of Prey in less than ten years? Hell, A Matter Of Family is said to take place "months" before Asylum, so Killing Joker and Barbara becoming Oracle and establishing the Birds of Prey happens in LESS THAN A YEAR apparently???

Ten years is too short man, I don't fucking buy it. The Batman we see in the Rocksteady trilogy really only makes sense for a Batman that has been actively fighting crime for at least twenty years if not longer. I know Arkhamverse is probably operating under the premise that the Robins were all adults before becoming crimefighters, because this violent and gritty world probably would feel squeemish at the thought of fucking ten year old boys in tights running around fighting and getting shot at by thugs. But it's still ludicrous. Fucking Dick Grayson needs to have been Robin for at least five years before becoming Nightwing, Jason Todd was 15 when he died, and Barbara needs to have been active as Batgirl during Dick Grayson's time as Robin. I will accept no other timeline. Shut up Arkham Origins go away.

I tried playing Batman Arkham Origins again thirteen years later because hey, maybe I was too hard on it back in the day. Maybe I'll feel differently about it in this post-Gotham Knights/Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League world. So many people are making videos about it giving it a reassessment and saying no it was actually good and unfairly maligned. Maybe my feelings would be different.

No. This game sucks ass. This isn't fun. It looks bad. It plays bad. The story is ass. I can't keep forcing myself to go through it, this is basically torture. Anyone who tells themselves this is a good game has no standards or taste whatsoever.

The only good Batman games are the three developed by Rocksteady.
