I do wish Dead Space 1 had held the tension a little more at the start. It could have really done with having you explore the Ishimura unmolested for a short while discovering the aftermath of the outbreak and really building the anticipation to a fever pitch before the reveal of that first necromorph. As it is you get attacked pretty much the minute you touch down and it's only after that you start seeing what's become of the Ishimura. Imagine how much more ominous "cut off their limbs" scrawled on the walls in blood would be if you didn't even know what you were supposed to be afraid of yet.
