the point of life is the ringing in my ears when I take my hearing aids out

the point of life is when we finish eating at the restaurant and my friends who don’t know ASL nod when I sign “ready?”

the point of life is the feeling of my service dog waking me up when my alarm goes off in the morning

the point of life is my service dog stopping me in the library when she hears a concerning noise, letting me know it’s there

the point of life is my husband pulling me up by the chin when I’m on his chest, so I can see his lips mouth “I love you”

the point of life is “I always keep the captions on, even when you’re not here”

It is truer than true for those of us who are not candidates for cochlear implants. The risk of that kind of invasive surgery is too much.

Stroke, facial paralysis, brain damage, non closing open wound, infections, seizures, life time headaches, migraines...

Btw, if by a miracle, I ever wake up hearing, just like I woke up deaf, I would never stop signing. Sign language is too beautiful and very beneficial to do away with.

I just wish more people had patience for the Deaf and HOH. Please stop getting upset with me for asking you to communicate in a way that isn't verbal. The amount of people who get mad about having to write down or type what they want to tell me instead of speaking is insane. I've had workers in public outright refuse to read what I wrote/typed for them and deny me service. Luckily, for the most part I have someone with me to interpret. It still feels infantilizing though. I'm an adult yet people treat me as though I'm not all because I can't hear.

"Well you should use a hearing aid or get a cochlear implant"

I shouldn't have to in order to receive basic respect.

I don't want to fix my hearing and quite frankly, hearing fatigue is something I despise.

My sister found out Ant-man has an ASL version on Disney plus! For the whole movie! Theres a little interpeter in the corner of the screen!

Apparently it's a marketing gimmick. Marvel plans on debuting a deaf hero at some point. Trying to get more Deaf viewers in.

She said if it goes well, they'll do more!
