oooh star wars au where obi-wan is deaged to 13-years old. From his perspective, he closes his eyes a General of the Young on Melida/Daan and wakes up a General of...uh...a lot of ?grown men? ??somewhere???
Queue confusion as the troops, while running from a firefight, try to explain to their itty-bitty General that he’s lost some memory. ‘Obviously,” Obi-Wan snarks. “I don’t remember the Melida or the Daan having a droid army. And you look a little old to be on this side of the war.”
More misunderstandings as the clones answer, ‘Who are the Melida? Look, no, those are Seppies—I mean Separatists—” An extremely crude explanation later, in which they show some holopics of Obi-Wan as an adult, and now baby Obi-Wan is left with the horrific impression that he’s been at war continuously for twenty-three years. This is the future and he’s been a military general for more two decades.
MORE horrible misunderstandings when they finally have a minute to rest and Boil and Waxer take off their helmets and Oh they’re twins and then Cody takes of his helmet and so does Crys and “Um...did I hit my head or...do you all...have the same face?” “Oh! Right, sorry sir, we’re clones. Ha, technically I’m 11, so we could be on the side of the young, but I’m afraid you don’t talk about your past much—’” And Obi-Wan is left with the impression that HE commissioned a CLONE ARMY and is freaking the fuck out because that is BEYOND illegal and also makes him a slaver??
“Who exactly are we fighting again?” Obi-Wan asks, voice cracking slightly.
“Traitors,” his second in command—Cody—replies. “Don’t worry about the war, sir. We just need to keep you safe until we can rendezvous with the fleet. If General Skywalker—he was your padawan—doesn’t know how to fix this, then I’m sure he’ll yell at the Council until they figure out a solution.”
“If only to make him go away,” one of the men jokes.
“I—The...Council? You mean he’s going to yell at the Jedi Council?” Obi-Wan asks faintly.
“The Council would help either way, obviously,” Cody rushes to assure him. “I mean, setting aside the fact that you’re the GAR’s highest General, you’re you!”
“I’m me...” Obi-Wan repeats, curling in on himself.
‘And I’m apparently some kind-of evil warlord terrorizing the galaxy with a clone army’
...
“You’re clones of JANGO FETT? From The Battle of Galidraan? The JEDI KILLER?!?”
Dream is a bit stronger when Roderick Burgess summons him. Not strong enough to break the circle, or flee, but strong enough to fight more, struggle longer.
If it had been anything else, he would have escaped. But Desire had meddled.
So instead, Dream is forced down and into a form that is alien to him, bound into a body that cannot hold all of him - and in self defence, he regresses to a state where it would hold all of him. A state from when things were still new and unformed, and there wasn't much dreaming going on. Where Dream himself was the youngest Endless sibling, as all the others hadn't come into existence yet. Where he had eyes that showed parts of his mother, stars moving in darkness, where he was small and fragile and talked through his mind rather then with his voice. Alien and ethereal and small and fragile and confused, bound away from the collective subconscious of hundreds of billions of galaxies, in a form with smooth round cheeks and hair that whisper around like he was underwater.
The form of a child.
And when the Corinthian comes to investigate, and sneaks in to spy on his lord and King bound and helpless, this is the form that he sees.
A trope that I really like to look at once and while is de-age/age regression. It’s a fascinating trope that allows for a wide range of tonal flavors from angst to fluff to humor. It also can make for very interesting character exploration and development. Some fandoms are rife with stories using this trope (such as Harry Potter or Star Wars) but others not so much. Below are some of my favorite examples from a number of fandoms->

As he steps towards her, he chews on his lower lip in an endearingly Bruce-like way. ‘Hulk stay.’
‘The fighting’s all done, big guy.’ She sits down on the ground, ignoring the flare of pain from her twisted ankle. ‘You won’t fit in the car.’
He sits down too, still towering over her. ‘Banner hurt,’ he says finally.
‘What do you mean?’ Hulk had been hit with a nasty-looking energy beam earlier, but he’d seemed to shake it off without a problem. ‘How can he be hurt?’
‘Hulk not keep Banner safe.’ He scowls at his feet. ‘Hulk job keep Banner safe.’
‘It’s okay. You did a great job.’ But Natasha's heart is pounding. She loves Bruce like she’s never loved anyone before. The thought that he might be trapped inside Hulk, hurting, scared… ‘But I need him back. Please.’ She holds out a hand. ‘I can’t help him if you don’t let him in.’
A full minute passes, during which Hulk eyes her distrustfully. Gone is his steady self-assurance; suddenly he’s fidgety and fretful. ‘Big light bad. Made puny Banner… extra puny.’
‘Wow, I didn’t even know that was possible,’ she teases, and is pleased when he offers her a half-smile. ‘I promise, we’ll have him un-punied in no time. But you’ve got to trust me on this one, okay? We’ll take care of him.’
Hulk wavers, but finally he nods and takes her hand. ‘Keep Banner safe,’ he orders.
She nods solemnly. ‘You got it.’
And then he’s shrinking in her arms. Natasha holds him steady. What did the beam do to him?
Bruce's weight lessens rapidly until he reaches normal size… and then keeps going. Natasha cries out, unsure what’s happening but wanting it to stop. Oh god, he’s going to shrink forever until there’s nothing left –
And then it stops. When she looks down, there’s a child in her arms.
He stares up at her from beneath a mop of brown curls, his eyes huge and dark. ‘Nat?’ he whispers.
Natasha laughs in disbelief. ‘Well, it could have been worse. God, you’re tiny…’
Bruce looks around in confusion. ‘I don’t remember… where’s Mom?’
Her heart breaks for him. ‘She had to go away for a little while, but she loves you very much.’ Carefully, she gathers him up and gets to her feet. ‘She told me to look after you for a bit, okay?’
He slumps against her in defeat. ‘Okay.’
Even through his hazy memory, he still knows who she is, and that gives her hope. ‘We’ll fix this,’ she promises, to herself as much as to him.
Her earpiece buzzes. ‘Romanov, do you copy?’
‘Hey Steve.’ She kisses Bruce's curly head before limping back towards civilisation. ‘Quick question… do we have a child’s car seat anywhere?’
Back at the tower, Tony takes their shrunken Avenger to the lab. Clint trails along behind. He can’t find anything amiss in the scans; Bruce is perfectly healthy… except for the fact that he’s a toddler.
‘Well, it’s got me confused. JARVIS, see what you can do with the data. And pull up anything you can on the weapons they were using. There’s got to be something. In the meantime…’ He lifts Bruce up and places him in Clint’s arms.
‘Woah woah, I’m not looking after him!’
‘Just for a few hours, whilst I work this out. I can’t do the magic if he’s crawling around drinking chemicals, can I? JARVIS, put in an emergency order for baby supplies.’
‘Of course, sir.’
Bruce is surprisingly heavy. Oh god what if he drops him? Clint has never even held a child before, let alone looked after one. ‘Tony,’ he says hoarsely, ‘don’t do this to me.’
‘Would you rather Thor changed his diaper?’
‘Yes, I would! But… Bruce probably wouldn’t.’ He rests his chin on Bruce's curly-haired head. ‘God, this sucks.’
‘I’ve fixed worse. Just a few hours, okay? Come on, it’s not that bad.’ Tony grins. ‘Doesn’t he already call you Daddy?’
“I think I've done it,” Wheeljack says as he wheels a large machine into the command room.
Prowl presses a button, sliding protective covers over Teletraan 1. “And what does it do?”
“I’ve cracked the code for time travel.”
Optimus nods, “Alright, give us your presentation.”
As he starts to explain he fails to notice the high command scooting away. The door slides open as Bumblebee walks in.
“And if I press this button.” Wheeljack says, “It should reverse time.”
Bee freezes, comprehending what he walked into.
Wheeljack presses the button.
It starts sparking.
“Uh oh.”
As expected it explodes.
Bee raises his arms to shield his face.
He’s knocked back, landing flat on his Aft, then falls onto his back.
As his head hits the ground his optics flicker off line.
“Oh no.”
“WheelJack.” Ratchet snaps, “What have you done…”
Bee’d optics flicker back on. Seeing Jazz on his knees looking down at him he freezes. He tries to ask what happened but only a small chirp comes from his voice box.
The mechs all freeze turning to look at Bee.
Bee chirps again. Jazz scoops him into his arms, holding the quivering sparkling to his chest.
Suddenly everyone is all over him, Ratchet, Opimus, Prowl, and Wheeljack all hovering around him.
Jazz suddenly holds Bee out, handing him to Ratchet. “You take him.”
“I don't…” He takes a breath, “Bee, can you hear me?”
Bee nods slowly, still not comprehending what’s going on. His voice is gone and he’s small… looking up at Ratchet he places a tiny servo on the one holding him.
“Do you know who we are?”
Nodding again Bee chirps annoyed, why wouldn't he know who everyone is.
“Do you know what happened to you?” Ratchet asks softly, turning his back on the others.
This time the answer is no.
“You're a sparkling.” Ratchet explains calmly.
And with that Bee’s processor is thoroughly overloaded. A moment later he goes offline.
“Is he ok?” Optimus asks.
“He’ll be fine,” Ratchet waves a hand over his shoulder, “It was just too much for him.”
From where he and WheelJack are impacting the burnt out wreckage Perceptor pipes up, “Good news, I think we can reverse this.
“I’d like to take a look at it myself,” Ratchet nods, “Could you bring him to the med bay. Ask First Aid to run some scans.”
Percepter nods and gently takes the even smaller than normal minibot into his arms.
_________
Bee wakes up with a start. Remembering what happened he lets out a panicked honk and starts transforming.
“Well, his TCog still works.” First aid calls as he walks over to the recharge berth.
Reviving his engine Bee backs away.
First aid pauses and nods, “Alright, could you turn back?”
A moment passes. Then the little car unfolds into Bee. Arms crossed in front of his chest.
“Hey, Wheeljack and Perseptor are working on a fix. All you need to do is sit tight for a little bit.”
Grudgingly Bee nods.
A few tests, mostly to check his motor skills, latter and
First Aid is picking him up and bringing him somewhere.
Whistling Bee makes his displeasure known.
“We’re just going to the Rec room,” He explains calmly.
When they arrive the only two in the room are Red Alert and Inferno.
Inferno turns to look at them, “How’s he doing?”
Whistling at Inferno Bee waves. Red Alert turns around and gives a Bee a wave as well. Then they both turn back to what they were doing.
_______
The day had been going pretty smoothly. Besides, the whole thing turned into a sparkling thing. The other Bots had stopped by to see if the rumors were really true.
They are and Bee is more than happy to get passed around.
But a problem soon arose.
A Decepticon attack.
A big one. It seems that every Decepticon on earth was put on this mission.
So all the Autobots are sent out to stop them.
Leaving Bee in the security office with Red Alert. He’s taken Prowls chair and is watching the battle over Red’s shoulder.
The fight is not going well. At all. Both sides are taking a beating.
Red Alert stops moving. Optics locked on the screen. His horns flash slightly and start sparking.
That’s his glitch acting up. Chirping Bee throws himself back, and acts as scared as he can maneg. Squeaking and reaching towards the Mech.
Snapping his head over Red looks to the quivering sparkling. “Hey now.” He murmurs as he stands to comfort Bee. “They’ll be alright, Ratchet and First Aid are helping.” As he speaks his horns stop glowing and he starts to calm down. Picking Bee up he paces the room.
Bee grins into Red’s chest plate, redirection successful.
A little while later his fuel tank is reading as empty, so he starts to root around in the bag Ratchet had left them.
Before he can find anything the door slides open and Prowl walks in.
Where he’s quickly scooped up into his arms and carried off. “Sorry but we can't have you under foot right now.” Prowl’s nearly running in the halls. “Too many mechs got hurt, we need everyone who can to help.”
Wondering where he’s being taken, Bee honks and squirms on the hold.
They stop at a door. Side’s and Sunny’s room.
Bee looks up at Prowl confused.
“They’re the only two who can watch you.” Prowl looks down at him, “They promised to behave.”
_____
Surprisingly Sides and Sunny were surprisingly decent. They just treated him like always. They watched some human movies.
Bee got his energon, finally.
It was decent.
Until they started chasing each other around. They hit the bearth, startling Bee into transforming.
“Oh that’s adorable.”
Bee rolls back and shudders as he tries to turn back.
“Are you stuck?” Sides asks as he crouches down to Bee’s level.
Yes he’s stuck. Bee honks.
“Do you want to go to ratchet?”
Another Yes.
Sunny carefly picks him up, “You think it’s calmed down enough?”
“Probably.”
________
It had been enough time and the Medbay is mostly calmed down by the time they arrive.
Blaster and Prime being the only two getting worked on. Blaster since his cassette compartment is jammed, and Optimus because he’s Optimus and refuses to get treated until everyone else is treated.
Bee whistles as they enter.
“What did you do?” Ratchet asks, turning away from the desk.
“We did nothing.” Sides says. “Bee’s stuck in alt mode.”
Ratchet nods. “Bring him here.
Bee’s set on the desk where he carefully rolls towards Ratchet.
He’s flipped onto his back and ratchet easily flips his Tcog back.
“Ok try it now.”
With a wirr Bee’s back in Mech form.
“Eyy nice one little Bee.” Blaster grins from where he’s watching.
______
From her perch in the vents Lazerbeak closes her camera and settles down to wait, The mech turned sparkling would be left alone for a moment and then she would strike.
Bringing him to her boss.
Soundwave would love to get his servo’s on this.
__________
As it turns out Soundwave didn't love getting his servo’s on Bumblebee.
The small Bot would not stop crying.
“Desist.” Soundwave says.
Bee does not desist. Instead he cries harder and louder than before.
“No harm shall come to you.” Soundwave says.
Rumble pulls himself up next to his creator, “Why do we have him?”
Frenzy pipes up, “Yeah, where did he even come from?”
“Autobot Scout BumbleBee was turned into a Sparkling,” Soundwave explains, “Lazerbeak caught him.”
“Nope,” Frenzy backs up, “I’m not dealing with this.”
Rumble nods, “I'm out.”
With that they both run out the door and a sharp clang followed by shouting can be heard echoing down the hall.
With those two gone Ravage hops up onto the berth to get a look. He fixes Soundwave with a look.
“I will return him.” Soundwave pets his head.
_______
Once back with the Autobots Bee is completely done with everything. All day he’s been getting manhandled and passed around. The decepticons had been the last straw.
He couldn’t hold it together anymore.
The sparkling coding took over. Causing him to cry out for his creator.
He’s being passed from person to person, so far Jazz is doing the best at calming him down. But he’s still not happy. He just wants to be left alone…
After what feels like hours Ratchet picks up on this and slowly walks back to the medbay with him. Once they’ve rounded the corner Bee transforms and zooms ahead drifting around the next corner.
Once they reach the medbay Ratchet brings him into a recovery room, “I’ll check on Wheeljack.”
“Actually Ratchet, we can turn him back now,” Perceptor grins. “Just bring him over.”
“I’ll grab him.” Ratchet nods.
A few minutes later Bee’s sat in a glass chamber and the lever flipped. A bright flash.
