First draft of my debate intro
Please anyone help
We drew the short straw and are debating why we don’t need feminism in the uk lol
I’m the team captain and have to do the intro and conclusion as well as a 15 min speech for a separate thing in school the day before the debate. When we are back to school I have three days to write the whole debate and speech (I’m trying to do it now tho)
Our main points are 1) legally equal and social change can’t be enforced by a organisation 2) feminists in the uk should focus on other issues worldwide lol
As I said, this is just the intro so everything will be explained and expanded on later :)
“Hello everyone, I am going to be opening today’s debate, defending the statement “feminism is no longer needed in the uk”.
While presumptions about what our arguments may be could be that we could come off as jaded or rude, we have tried our best to offer the best debate we can.
If men and women are equal under law, what more can the feminist moment aim to achieve in the uk?
Legally speaking since the 70’s, men and women are equal under the law. The only thing the feminist movement could aim to change would be social behaviour. However, it could be argued this could cause the opposite reaction as many could feel as though the movement was trying to infringe into personal freedoms.
Our suggestion to counteract this would be to focus the movements power elsewhere, specifically nations in which girls are shunned and repressed just for their gender.
Under harsh regimes, girls are targeted worldwide. Whether it’s being banned from schools or being arrested for their clothing, the treatment of women is unacceptable.
If we are to focus our efforts internally we neglect these girls and the possibility of helping them. Instead, we should organise and aim to liberate women worldwide rather than pressing for a social change that will happen over time”.
