Calling someone the love of your life is just. So wonderful. It's one of those things where people say it so much it starts to lose meaning until you actually meet that person, and then it clicks. That person who fills your life with such joy and wonder at the world that you are so sure no other love could compare. That person who you would do anything for and makes you feel alive just at the mention of their name or the thought of their face. That person who makes brown eyes the most beautiful eye color fathomable and why don't we talk enough about brown eyes?

Like. You are the love of my life and it sounds foolish and naive but I'm telling you this because I truly started living my life the moment I turned the corner and saw you, with your green shirt and fluffy hair and god those big brown eyes that make me think of the middle of fall. You make me care about things I never would have cared about before and it doesn't my make my love for those things any less genuine it just means you've changed me as a person and I believe for the better. You are the love of my life. I love my life, because you are in it. Because you started it. You are the love of my life.

“Mama?”

A head of bright blonde hair peeked around the doorway, making Emily look up from her case files, the cautious voice was slightly drowned out by a crash of thunder outside, which had evolved from a distant rumble to near constant menacing sound. She was unbothered by the sound, she had always found odd peace within a storm, but that couldn’t be said for the child across the room. 

“Hey, honey, you alright?”

As much as he tried to appear strong, citing the fact that he was too old to be babied in his eyes, Declan could only shake his head, and the second Emily motioned for him to come over he was clinging to his mother like their safety depended on it.

Loud sounds had spooked him for years but after the death of his birth parents and the women who raised him, any sudden noise could send him into tears; Complex-PTSD, the psychiatrist had told them. 

“Declan, look at me,” Emily prompted gently, “You’re safe, I’m here and nothing will ever hurt you again, okay?”

nowadays depending on what their relationship is like it’s a more....muted sort of fondness? probably a little more intense/heightened than her affection for other friends but the enamored feelings are no more

elle has never had any chill in her life & she was p convinced this guy was her soulmate so she was always texting back as soon as she could

nowadays if/when they kept in touch she’d still try to be mindful and not purposely keep him waiting, but she wouldn’t drop more pressing things to reply
