Prompt 2 - Defensemen
@wolfstarmicrofic January 2, word count 435
First part
Sirius was gaining on Lupin. He just needed two more seconds, and he’d be on him. Lupin skated around both of the Marauders’ defensemen and was angling himself to make a shot.
Peter hunkered down, his eyes locked on Lupin’s every move. Sirius didn’t know how much time was left on the clock, but he knew that whoever got the puck in a net would win the game.
He could feel his teammates behind him as well as the Wolves players; they were closing in on him and Lupin, but they were still ahead of the others. Sirius put on a last burst of speed and shoved his stick between Lupin’s legs, knocking the puck to the side all without actually touching the lanky player. He picked up the puck and, with a pirouette and figure skating coach would be pleased with, took off back the way he’d come.
He easily wove around the players heading right at him and was soon back at the far end of the ice. He sensed rather than saw the enormous monster heading his way. Fenrir Greyback was the most feared defenseman in the entire league. He had more penalties and suspensions than anyone in the entire history of hockey. Sirius honestly did not know how he could still be allowed to play, but he kept coming back season after season, hell-bent on ending someone’s career before the season was out. Sirius had lost count of how many up-and-coming rookies had been so badly injured by this beast that they’d never played the game again.
He let out a long, steadying breath as Greyback raced towards him. He had seconds to get the puck in the net before he was slammed to the ice.
A shadow at this side soared past him. James. James had come to his rescue. James barrelled into Greyback, catching him off guard and leaving Sirius free to make the shot. He didn’t waste any time and continued towards the net; he wasn’t letting go of the puck this time.
Less than a foot from the goal, Sirius finally took his shot. The goalie was on him, but Sirius wasn’t one of the best players in the league for nothing. The side of his stick made contact with the black puck for the final time. The puck lifted off the ice and flew across the goalie’s shoulder as the snarling man turned his head to watch it. The final siren sounded. The game was over. Sirius looked up at the scoreboard and grinned, his red and gold mouth guard pushing against his lips. They’d won.
Next part
"'You are a defenseman. You will teach them how to stand still and not score goals. Defenseman things.' Ryan laughed. 'Asshole.'"
— Rachel Reid, Tough Guy
Hoping Miro and Harley are in top form tonight!!!
Here's another model sheet I did for Eddie the Yeti - one of nine! Arney is the defenseman for for Eddie’s team (the Timberwolves), so he's strong, gritty, and very top heavy. That doesn't preclude him having a personality though. :3
As always, if you're interested in buying the children's book I was hired to illustrate, check out the website here!
