In the Woods
He's another abandoned chapter that I wrote for Golden Cages, my Mockingjay AU where Katniss is hijacked instead of Peeta.
Trigger warnings for Galeniss in this chapter. Nothing too explicit. Just kissing. Experimental kissing lol. You've been warned.
It's a quick kiss. Two mouths brushing for half a second.
But it lasts long enough to register a few things. Or remember them.
Slightly chapped lips, and the faint scrape of stubble.
A height difference means bending and stretching.
The faint smell of woodsmoke and pine, and something deeper, earthier.
The scent of the forest after rain.
Then it was over. And I was left with more questions than before.
I wasn’t sure what to call it. Or how to compare it, if I even should compare it to…..
But how could I not when I needed to figure out the truth? The Katniss from before, the one who knew these men-who knew their secrets and the way they kissed and even the way they made love-she knew the truth of whose kisses she liked better. She must have known.
If Peeta’s kiss when I was rescued tasted like joy and relief, then Gale’s kiss here in the woods tasted like regret.
It was a surprisingly strong flavor for such a gentle kiss.
“What was that for?” Gale’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I looked up at him blankly, as he stared at me with a searching look in his eyes. I know he wanted me to say something, explain why I just kissed him out of the blue. But my tongue stays stubbornly stuck to the roof of my mouth. I was unable to explain it fully, even to myself.
His eyes narrow slightly. “Just trying it on for size?” He asks, with a hint of suspicion. The look on his face reminds me of a dog that’s been kicked one too many times.
I wonder what I did to him in the past to bring about that look.
I wonder how much of it was me and how much was Snow, and his orders.
Then I think, it really doesn’t matter whose fault it was. Or is? We’re here now. And any pain I caused either of them was revisited on me tenfold.
“I wanted to remember,” I tell him bluntly as I lean down and start gathering up my pack.
This seems to surprise him. He’s quiet for a few beats.
“And did you?” The words are so quiet I almost miss them.
I meet his gaze as I straight up and swing my pack onto my back. I reach out to cup his scratchy cheek. It's barely mid-afternoon and he already needs a shave.
My thumb slides across his cheekbone, and my gaze shifts to his lips.
“A few things,” I reply before stepping away and heading back in the direction of Thirteen at a fast pace, needing some time and space by myself to think.
“Mystery Box” Choral Composition Deleted Chapter
Look at all this world building I had to cut :D I’ll try to slot it back in where I can, but the chapter itself is pretty entertaining. Set while Anastas is staying in the NiBrennan house. Was originally going to be somewhere around chapter 13, I think? It’s been a while. Spoilers through to chapter 13ish.
STITCHES DELETED CHAPTER: Nelly and Thetis Investigate.
Nelly stared in blind horror at the shock of blood before her eyes.
Thetis had brought her to this cottage in the woods, she said she wanted to check to see if Old Annet had left them any information about this as she had often advised the Bane Squad, but Nelly knew that Thetis was shocked too. She looked like she was going to be sick.
‘Who moved here?’ She asked softly, staring at the tiny bloody handprints on the walls and the ruined sofa ‘Nelly, who was here after Annet?’
Nelly almost didn’t hear her; she couldn’t tear her eyes away from that old nightmare of a sofa. Her heart sank to depths she didn’t know it could reach. She remembered hauling that beat up sofa in her car to the edge of the woods for Wilhelm, Jamie, Storm and Ivy, and she’d smiled as she watched them struggle to take it through the trees, chattering as they went.
Original Ch1 for Done with Love
@rebuildingkonohaonceagain requested this deleted chapter of done with love - so here it is! Read if you’d like!
Summary: Sakura saves a patient important to Shikamaru, then She and Shikamaru discuss how to get Sasuke back on her own.
I like this take, because it makes fun of Kishi’s Sakura a bit through Shika’s perspective and shows how I’d make her actually a good character instead of a love obsessed bimbo - hence the title “Done with Love’

Dearly beloved deleted chapter
I felt bad that so many people wanted to read the awful chapter that is now permanently deleted from AO3… So here you go. <3 Now you might see why I deleted it… <3
Yuuri was almost tackled by Makkachin as he and Victor returned back to Yu-topia.
But fortunately, Victor was there to catch him and calm his excited dog down. They then spent a few moments greeting their excited four-legged friends, before making their way to Yuuri’s bedroom along with the dogs. Victor quickly jumped into Yuuri’s nest and enjoyed the sweet scent of his mate that was surrounding him.
Victor hummed in content. “It smells so good.” He beamed. “I want to stay here forever.”
Yuuri took in the picture of his mate sprawled out in his nest before shaking his head fondly. “I really wouldn’t mind, you know…” He said as he too climbed into his nest, jointing Victor’s side.
The older boy pulled Yuuri into his embrace and threw his leg over him, successfully trapping him. “Look at my beautiful teddy bear.” Victor cooed and hugged Yuuri tighter.
“Victor…” Yuuri protested as laughter took him over. “You’re crushing me…”
Victor released his grip a little as not to hurt him, but nuzzled his face into Yuuri’s neck, scenting him.
Yuuri didn’t mind at all, nothing made him feel better than the idea of being Victor’s. Not that he would ever admit it, he was an independent omega, after all. “You’re ridiculous.” He chuckled.
Victor smiled proudly as he released Yuuri fully. “I’m in love.” He sighed. “There’s a very fine line.”
Yuuri rolled over so he was face to face with his mate. He felt his eyes being immediately drawn to Victor’s short hair. “It’s very beautiful…”
“The line?” Victor mused.
“No, your hair.” Yuuri corrected and raised his hand up to touch it again. “It’s so soft.”
Victor blushed at the praise, but allowed his mate to play with his hair without restrictions. Yuuri did so with much joy.
“Do you really like it that much?” Victor smiled.
Yuuri nodded. “You look so good in it… I especially love the bangs. It’s so bouncy.” He moved the bangs and allowed it to fall back into place.
Victor smiled lovingly. “Do you think I should keep it short?”
Yuuri blushed at the mere idea. “I don’t know.” He blurted. “You should do what you want… It’s your hair.”
Victor found Yuuri’s blush wildly amusing. “But I want you hear your opinion.” He drawled. “What do my mate think my hair should be like?”
Yuuri swallowed nervously. When his phone suddenly vibrated in his pocket, he quickly took it out.
“Avoiding the question will do you nothing. I’ll just keep asking.” Victor said with a pout.
Yuuri didn’t hear him. He just looked worriedly at his phone.
Victor immediately felt on edge. “What’s wrong?”
“I…” Yuuri trailed off. “I just got a text from an unknown number…”
Victor frowned worriedly. “What does it say?”
Yuuri cleared his throat slightly. Before clamming his mouth shut. “Nothing.”
Victor felt as if the lie physically slapped him. “Yuuri.” He warned.
Yuuri deleted the message and slammed his phone shut. “It’s nothing.”
“What did you just delete?” Victor questioned. That was clearly not a message that should be ignored. “Yuuri?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Yuuri said and threw his phone to the other side of his bed. “It wasn’t anything important.”
Victor went for the phone in the very next second, he opened it and began searching.
“I deleted it.” Yuuri exclaimed. “Victor, give me back my phone.”
Victor ignored his mate and went to the folder of deleted messages. He was in luck. It was still there. He opened it immediately. Skimming through it.
“Victor, no!” Yuuri snapped almost tackling his mate in his urge to get his phone back before Victor read it.
The message was in Japanese, but Victor had no problem deciphering it, since it was threatening his mate. Whoever it was, wanted Yuuri to send Victor to an unknown place, unless he wanted trouble once Victor left for Russia.
Which meant that whoever it was, knew about their relationship.
“Yuuri what is this?” Victor asked in concern. “Do you know who it is?”
“No.” Yuuri said and forcefully ripped his phone back. “And when I tell you to not read something, I mean it.”
Victor was taken aback by Yuuri’s anger. Yuuri had never been mad with him before. “Yuuri…”
“You’re not going.” Yuuri snapped, leaving no room for arguments.
“Yuuri, I…”
“No.” Yuuri said more forcefully. “I’m not letting you go.”
“So I’m supposed to sit here and leave you to face possible danger once I’m gone?” Victor questioned. “That’s not going to happen.”
“You’re not going into definite danger.” Yuuri quipped. “I’m not letting that happen.”
“Well, that’s not up to you.” Victor stated.
Yuuri glared at him. He actually glared. It was terrifying. “Then I’m going with you…” He declared.
“No you’re not.” Now it was Victor’s turn to snap. “If there will be a fight, I’m not letting you anywhere near it.”
“If there is a fight, they won’t be able to hurt me without risking prison. Whoever wrote that from an unknown number is clearly a coward. You would be safer if I go with you.” Yuuri claimed.
“No, I’ll be safer if you stay here.” Victor argued. “Out of harms way, where I know you can’t be hurt. Or I won’t be able to keep my head straight.”
“Tough.” Yuuri huffed. “Because that’s not an option.”
“Yuuri…”
“No.” Yuuri cut off. “You’re staying, or I’m coming.”
Victor wanted to rip his short hair off of his head. “That’s idiotic.” He exclaimed. “I’m putting you in danger in both of those options. That’s not fair.”
“How can you think that your suggestion is fair? Me just sending you out in danger without any kind of protection?” Yuuri questioned.
“I can handle it.” Victor assured.
Yuuri raised his eyebrows in disbelief. “Fine, then I’m going alone.”
Victor felt like growling in frustration. “How did you go to there? There’s no chance in the world that I will send you anywhere alone.”
“Then how can you expect me to do it?” Yuuri asked. “You’re the most important person in the world to me. If I lose you I…” He trailed off as tears filled his eyes.
“Yuuri…” Victor said sympathetically and gently wrapped his arms around his mate.
Yuuri immediately shoved him away. “No!” He snapped. “You’re not doing that. You’re not comforting me and then getting your way. Not this time.”
Victor was completely stunned after Yuuri shoving him away like that. He had no idea what to do. Yuuri was crying and refused to be comforted.
It physically hurt.
“There has to be a better option.” Victor said. “One where we both get out without getting harmed.”
Yuuri frowned thoughtfully. “Maybe…” He swallowed his tears down. “Maybe we can call the police?” He suggested.
Victor nodded. It sounded like the smartest idea. “Okay.” He agreed.
That’s when Yuuri’s phone vibrated again. Yuuri picked it up but Victor took it from him before he had a chance to read.
Victor glared at the screen once he saw what it said. “Involve anyone else and you’re dead.” He read out loud. His hairs stood on end with fury. Whoever this was were going to bleed for those words.
No one threatened Yuuri like that and got away with it.
No one.
“Give me back my phone.” Yuuri snapped, before snatching it back from his true mate so he could see for himself.
“Why are you so angry with me?” Victor asked. “I’m just trying to keep you safe.”
“You’re treating me like a child.” Yuuri exclaimed. “Not as an equal. And I’ve had enough.”
“Enough?” Victor repeated in confusion. “How long have you been feeling like this?”
Yuuri shrugged and averted his gaze, reading the message on his phone.
“Yuuri?” Victor prodded.
“Let’s just focus on this.” Yuuri said, giving his phone back to Victor. “Together.”
Victor had never been this frustrated, both because of Yuuri’s overly rebellious behavior, and the fact that he was in danger and refused to acknowledge it.
“Yuuri, this is not some game. Someone is actually threatening your life.” Victor said as carefully as he could. “It’s not the time to be a hero. Let me handle it.”
“You think that I should do nothing because I’m an omega, right?” Yuuri questioned. “You think I should just stay at home and cook or something? Maybe have a few babies while I’m at it?”
“Yuuri, no.” Victor said calmly. “Why would you think that?”
“Because that’s exactly what you’re thinking.” Yuuri exclaimed. “You think I’m useless. That’s why you want me to stay out of the way.”
“How can you accuse me for this?” Victor asked in disbelief. “Have I ever made you feel like this?”
“You’re making me feel like that now.” Yuuri said angrily.
Victor was at a loss. Yuuri was so angry, and he was the one on the receiving end.
It made him feel horrible.
How could he fix this?
“Fine.” Victor relented. “You can come, but you will stay out of the way.”
Yuuri nodded. “But I will interfere if you’re in danger.”
Victor didn’t like that. But he would do whatever he had to, if it meant that he could erase that anger from his mate. “Okay, but if I tell you to run, you will run.” He bargained. “Even if you think you are helping, you will listen to me if I tell you that there is danger and you need to get out.”
“Only if you promise that you won’t say so, unless it’s absolutely necessary.”
Victor released a sigh of defeat, looking at Yuuri’s desperate eyes. There was only one thing he could do. “I promise…” ……………………………………….
Victor felt on edge the entire time they walked to the mysterious meeting-place. He had no idea where it was, but fortunately, Yuuri did.
“Here it is.” Yuuri said as he stopped and looked around. “What time is it?”
Victor took out his phone. “We have five minutes left to midnight.”
Yuuri frowned thoughtfully. “Shouldn’t they be waiting? I mean… this is their idea… They should be waiting.”
“Hopefully, they changed their mind and decided not to show…” Victor said as he looked around and tightened his grip on Yuuri.
“You really thought you would be that lucky?” A voice suddenly asked from the shadows.
Yuuri immediately recognized it. “Tommy?”
Victor did his best to cover his mate from the shadow’s view, as the red-haired boy stepped forward into the light. “Hello, Yuuri… I didn’t think you would come.”
Yuuri glared at him. “What do you want?” He asked angrily.
“Nothing from you…” Tommy’s eyes shifted to Victor. “Yet…”
Victor did not like the sound of that. “You’re not getting anything from him.” He stated. “Ever.”
Tommy chuckled darkly. “We’ll see about that.”
“Victor, I think you should go.” Yuuri said seriously. “I need to talk to him alone.”
Victor wanted to laugh at the ridiculous suggestion. “I’m not leaving you with him.”
“Always the hero…” Tommy mused. “Tell me, Victor… How hurt does Yuuri usually get when you try something like that?”
Victor’s chest started vibrating, as a growl built up within him. “You’re not going to put a finger on my mate.”
“No, not until I kill you.” Tommy stated. “After that, Yuuri is free for the taking.”
“Victor, go.” Yuuri urged, pulling the back of Victor’s shirt.
Victor ignored Yuuri completely. “And how do you plan to do that?” He questioned. “To kill me?”
Tommy smiled wolfishly. “I have a few ideas…”
“You’re not doing anything to him.” Yuuri snarled. “Victor, get out of here.”
“I can’t, Yuuri.” Victor stated. “I’m not leaving until that bastard is dead.”
“You’re not killing anyone.” Yuuri snapped. “Tommy, you’re not hurting my mate. And you’re definitely not killing him. I won’t let you.”
“That’s the only way you can be mine.” Tommy said. “Victor will end up killing you. I’m doing this to save your life. You will be much safer with me.”
Yuuri realized that his friend must have lost his mind. It didn’t sound like him at all. He sounded insane.
“I read about soul bonds, and the only way to break one is through death.” Tommy explained. “After Victor is dead, I can claim you, and you will come with me to Germany. We will live happily ever after… Just you and me… Forever.”
“Tommy, if you kill him. I will die.” Yuuri said. It was a complete lie and he wasn’t sure that it would work, but it was worth a shot. If everyone was being irrational, he could just as well lie.
Tommy looked at him in disbelief. “You’re lying.”
“No.” Yuuri lied. “The bond is connected to our hearts. “If Victor’s stop beating, mine will as well.”
Tommy frowned in confusion. “That’s not true.” He protested. “I’ve read about people whose true mates have died. And their hearts are still beating.”
“I was connected to Victor at birth, I’ve told you about that.” Yuuri said. “Which makes Victor the grand soulmate. Just like the youngest one is the one who has to reach out, it also can’t survive without the older one.”
Victor was completely stunned. He had no idea that Yuuri was such an excellent liar, especially in a situation like this, where both of their lives were at stake because of Tommy’s mental instability.
“So it’s up to you.” Yuuri finally said. “You can have me over my literal dead body.”
Tommy looked like he was deep in thought for a long while, before he suddenly looked up. “I think you’re lying.”
Yuuri flinched at the harshness, but was able to quickly recover. “Is that a chance you’re willing to take?”
Tommy averted his gaze. Before suddenly, out of nowhere, he shivered. He looked around himself in confusion. “What the hell?” He asked nervously, before he started sniffing the air.
“Yuuri, is he…?” Victor asked in confusion.
“He’s sensing his own true mate.” Yuuri finished.
Tommy looked at the both of them, startled. Before he suddenly turned on his heels and disappeared back into the shadows.
“I’m calling the police.” Victor stated, taking out his phone.
Yuuri nodded in agreement. He didn’t care that Tommy was his friend. He had threatened Victor’s life. And that was unforgivable to him.
He just hoped that they would catch him soon.
Before he got away…

Good Directions: Deleted Chapter (between Chapter 21 and 22)
Originally this chapter was supposed to be just after Bastian’s Chapter but ultimately I decided that I didn’t like it and that it didn’t feel like it had enough relevance to the “A Plot Train” and did very little to push the story forward so I made the decision to get rid of it.
But since I worked on it as if it would be posted I figured...why not?
Meet my friends for a girls’ night out Seems there ain’t much to talk about Same drinks that we’re all raising But all of the toasts just don’t feel the same
We used to be life of the party We used to be the ones that they wished they were But now it’s like they don’t know how to act Maybe they’re like me and they want us back It’s like there’s always an empty space Those memories that nobody can erase Of how bright we burned Well now it hurts, but it’s true When they think of me they think of you.
