Oh Delling.
Delling the light one.
Asir god of the dawn.
Third husband of the fair dark Night and father of the Day.
Guard of the eastern heavens, guard of Baldurs home in the grove of Mimir and Mimirs eastern realm.
God of the morning light. Delling, whos door the dwarfs and trolls fear and great gods pass through on their way to Hel.
I can not be the only one that have been glad to see the signs of spring arive, and amung them are truly beutiful mornings on my way to work.
Oh Delling, you truly are one of the most beutiful gods indeed.
Some thoughts on Delling. I think most of us know that Delling is an awful person, a dictator and a tyrant. And while his intentions may have been to keep his daughter safe, he ultimately isolated her, took away all agency in her life and made her miserable.
He was definitely underutilized in the 2nd season and I know some people are upset he seemingly escaped without suffering any consequences for his actions, but I don't think it's true. First off, it's absolutely appropriate that he survived, upsetting as it may be, because that fits with the themes of the show, especially the way it rejects death as a form of karma for one's actions.
But also remember that almost all the power he had to control and oppress people is gone. The Benerit Group was dissolved, by his own daughter, and all the power it brought him with it. And while he may have escaped responsibility for his earlier crimes, it's clear in the timeskip his actions are under investigation and he may yet still face the consequences of them.
It's also notable that in episode 23, Miorine does not include him in her family speech to Prospera. She's willing to accept Elnora as her family member because it's what Suletta wants, but she doesn't extend that same hand to her father. And it's telling that Delling neither speaks to or appears in the same scenes as his daughter in the epilogue, unlike Elnora and Eri, who along with Suletta, make up her real family now.
There's a lot of acceptance in G-Witch, but that acceptance doesn't always come with forgiveness, even for the main characters. At least not right away. And while I think Miorine accepted that her father did what he did to keep her safe, I don't think she ever really forgave him for isolating her and controlling her life.
So yes, Delling lived, but I don't think he got a happy ending. The power he built up over decades that was important to him is gone, destroyed by the daughter he neglected. His daughter is probably no longer part of his life, leaving him truly alone, and he's finally maybe facing the consequences of his actions.
Me, having rewatched witch from mercury 10x already, spent copious amounts on model kits, staying up till 1am talking theories with friends, and not emotionally ready for the series to end:
Norsery Rhymes from A to Z Dellinger - The Day Bringer
Happy Thorsday! - Here’s another 20 min sketch of a Norse (and Germanic, Celtic) mythological characters. This week it’s Dellingr / Dellinger/ Delling. Whose name translates to the Dawn, the shining, the dayspring, or the day bringer. The personification of the shining first light of day. It’s said that he and his people and family were bright and beautiful. Possibly indicating he was part of a group of sun and sky gods.
Husband of Nott (The personification of night). Father of Dagr with Nott. Whose name translates to ‘day’. The personification of day and light. Dellingr is Nott’s third husband after Aud, and her second husband, Annar, with who Nott had a daughter named Jord (Earth), making Jord Dagr’s half sister.
In some tales Dellingr gives Nott and Dagr their horse and chariots to pull across the sky. Making him the original owner of the Horse Drasill (Skinfaxi) “Glad”, who draws day to mankind. Adorned with precious jewels. His mane illuminates the sky and earth in a blazing fire. Alternately it’s Odin that gives Dagr and Nott their chariots and horses. Though there’s a third option here Odin taks Dellingr to hand over his charge of the horses and chariots to Not and Dagr. Dellingr is said to be the one who throws open the Dellingr’s doors. Doors of the morning to let the light out. Meaning the dawn figuratively and possibly meaning releasing Skinfaxi and his chariot to run across the sky.
He’s also said to be one of the dwarves and god Loki mentioned in the love story of Svipdag and Mengloth in the Lay of Svipdagthat. As one who made the golden floor within the hall Lyr ”Heat Holding” / “Spear” / or “Pike”, that he travels to so high. Either meaning it was a suspended floor or a floor balanced on a singular column or spear. Or alternately it’s simply on a high pointy mountain top. Either way it’s a great hall on high, surrounded by flames. Though this mention of his name could be another dwarf with the same name given the subject of construction. The inclusion of Loki, and it’s placement in the sky indicates it could also be the Dellingr of the dawn who assisted in it’s building.
