summary: y/n y/l/n arrives to the pitt, and after she enchanted every single one of the pitt crew, she jumps into action.
pairing: all platonic, but if you are delulu enough you can sense a slight denis whitaker x reader and robby robinavitch x reader !! (i love delulu)
warning: basic er things, nothing extra, y/n has long enough hair to braid it (even if it's a tiny braid), not proofread, ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE SORRY
the soft padding of her sneakers could be heard as the clicking of sharp heels; as the automatic doors opened in the front, somehow every patient looked up, as if someone popular and famous could came in, ready to give autograms and accept awards. but in reality, it was a girl, not a girl, a young woman. a young, promising woman with h/c hair, radiant s/c skin even radiant, despite the suffocating air in the er. a bag hanging on her left arm, holding a coffee cup, in the other hand a phone, airpods in her ears as she ultimately ignored everybody.
"good morning, miss y/l/n." the receptionists greeted, but the young, promising woman only nodded her head, throwing a smile into their way. crossing a path between patients, everybody looked at her, like, where is she going? into the er? is she the new, pretty lady who'a going to record their bloodytype and giving kids candies after they beared the pain of taking a blood sample? no, she wasn't a receptionist, and no, she wasn't a nurse. she was a doctor. a promising, young doctor and a promising, young woman.
and a promising, young woman, who was a little bit late from her 12 hour shift. shrugging as she passed the glass door, stopping a little bit, picking out the earplugs, tucking it into her bag, looking around, like a queen when she looks at her villagers, waiting for her to say or do something meaningful, or an angel, who just arrived to help those who were in pain and agony.
"everybody stay calm, sweethearts. mommy is here."
starting walking to the desk in the middle of the pitt, it was absolute chaos she met. a guy held one of his fingers in a plastic bag with himself, trying not to pick the bandage he was given, made her gulp. "oh, my god", y/n muttered dramatically, waving to dana. it wasn't the scariness blood and the brutality that made her wail; it was the thought of working tiring hours, folding that poor guy's hand together. a resident will do it hopefully, she thought, and honestly, all of them would do it fo her if she just batted her lashes at them.
frank and melissa was stacking tablets as they saw y/n making a beeline to the desk. wearing a comfortable sneaker and some light jacket, a thousand of little knick-knacks hanging from her bag as it waved on her side, her body so so so hot as if she did pilates every two days, and her face even more precious. wearing her hair in two braids to stop them from messing around her face, the two stopped in their motion.
"how the hell is that she doesn't look tired? she pulled a 24-hour long shift exactly twelve hours ago." frank wondered.
"she looks like she just came back from a week-long break at a beauty farm and spa." melissa added, making frank nod and huff.
"bet she sits all in her free time, massaging her face and lying in infra lights, like in those tiktok reels."
"and she even smells like the bubble shops you cross when you look at the glass-windowed makeup stores, or the ones with designer bags in rome or new york."
frank was stunned with the metaphor melissa came up with, but he couldn't deny the fact that it was true.
"i don't know, frank... but she is my idol." melissa sighed, turning back to the tablets.
"idol in what?" he asked, furrowing an eyebrow. yeah, y/n was fantastic, but wasn't melissa overreacting a little bit?
"in everything." she stated somehow dreamily and desperate at the same time, and frank just let that sink in. well, maybe, definitely, y/n truly was an idol.
looking through the glass of one of the exam rooms, trinity, victoria and samira stopped in their motions as they all picked out plastic gloves.
"look, y/n is here." samira babbled, as the two other girls picked up their heads. looking at the young woman's hair and face as she elegantly avoided a sign that warned about wet floor, drinking from her coffee cup, lifting her sunglasses a little bit, winking at cassie mckay on her way.
"i swear i can hear lady gaga singing behind her back."
"lady gaga?? more like doja cat, duh." victoria mumbled. "loot at her, she is so..."
"perfect? yeah, say something we don't know about her." trinity scoffed.
"her skin is glowing, even in these shit pale lights... i can't even do magic with my skin in natural light. how does she manage to be perfect in a place so fucked up like this?" samira mumbled, pulling another plastic glove.
"remember when two weeks ago, a patient's artery just blew all of a sudden and she was literally bathed in his blood?"
"yeah, i recall that... she looked like an amazon, or carrie."
"definitely 1976. but with glam in the blood and reflector lights in the right places."
arriving to the desk, y/n smiled at dana, placing down her coffee cup.
"good morning, dana. how is my favourite charge nurse?" she asked, making dana smiling while she rolled her eyes.
"i am the only charge nurse here, y/n."
"doesn't mean you can't be my favourite." the girl shrugged with a sly smile, singing some papers as she dropped her bag onto the desk. dennis hurried beside her, searching for papers, making y/n turn to the side, lean on the desk and looking what he was doing. the young man felt his ears melting immediately, looking to his side from time to time, trying not to look like he was on the verge of a heart attack because the prettiest girl in the pitt, no, the prettiest girl in the whole hospital was looking at him. in the background, a young gay was hollering because of the pain in his broken arm, making bot her hand dennis startled a little bit.
"good day so far, dennis?" y/n asked, finishing her work as she handed it back to dana with a wink.
"uhm... yeah, everything's fine! i mean, yeah..." he babbled, making the young woman sigh and smile at him.
"that's delightful to hear, dennis. have a nice work today, won't we?"
dennis swallowed, not because she was talking to him, but because she was calling him by his actual name. but he didn't have the time to anwer as robby was coming closer, patting the desk behind y/n.
"seven minutes late, ms. y/l/n. others can be here in time, why don't you?" he asked, trying to look distinct and maybe irritated, but both of them -hell, everybody knew that doctor robinavitch couldn't stay mad at the young gynecologist doctor.
"i'm a doctor, mr. robinavitch, not a switz clock..." she mumbled, grabbing her bag, snatching out a protein bar and a can of coffee, sliding it on the desk into his direction with a shy smile. she wasn't afraid, she just tried to look in order for the patients. "but maybe this can make you forget my inexcusable sin." she sounded pleading, making the chief forcing back a smile.
taking the protein bar, robby rolled his eyes, nodding with his head.
"change your glass shoes and gown into scrubs and we will be fine." he muttered, then got off from the desk to have a conversation with samira. y/n looked back at dana, trying to ignore a woman that was gagging nonstop behind one of the curtains.
"breaking havoc?" she asked, but before the woman could answer, a pinging sound could be heard. dana read the information, and maybe this ping, or the look on her face made y/n determined. her face changed; eyes focusing on the woman, eyebrows dropping a little bit, the cure of her smile forming into a straight line of concentration, taking off her coat.
"twenty-six year old woman collapsed on the street with a minor concussion, six months pregnant, possible danger of premature birth. four minutes!" dana said out loud, making y/n pick up a plastic glove. this was her area; promising women and cute babies. and some minor concussions.
"you're gonna be needed, y/l/n" heather came to her side, making y/n sigh dramatically.
"this is what i feared." picking off her sunglasses, she looked at dana. "take care of her for me", she mumbled, picking up her stuff to bring it to the staff room. dana leaned out from the desk, it was only three minutes until y/n could be jumped into full action.
"you have three minutes, where are you going?" heather asked instead of her, making y/n look back.
"changing into scrubs, i can't have yolanda and robby taking off my head. i like my face and hair, don't you too?" she asked, hurrying to the door, disappearing behind it. heather looked at dana, who sighed, looking at her watch, they both missing the sounds of steps.
"i could forgive her again for not wearing scrubs. but i like to see our little precious diva a little bit scared of me." yolanda said, leaning on the counter, smiling as she picked the sunglasses, putting it beside the safety of the computer. even being strict, she couldn't let y/n's sunglasses stolen or broken.
dana sighed; this is going to be a long shift. but never a boring one with y/n y/l/n.
and as the patient rolled in, y/n rushed to her side, giving everybody instructions, holding the woman's hand as they rolled into a surgery room, cheking for the baby to be fine, just as their mama. robby tried to beam in for occassinal help, but y/n ruled the situation, reading heart rates and blood pressure.
looking at the promising, young woman placing an oxygen mask on the patient's face, nodding as everything was alright, he knew it was a good choice to keep y/n. sure, she had and attitude, she surely was always a little bit late, she surely found a way to sneak off with dana to have a quick smoke break, but still...
...she was a phenomenon. and not only in looks, but in knowledge as well, he couldn't name anybody who he could trust more with pregnant patients, or with patients who were ready to give birth in the saint given moment, he couldn't find another person who could calm down girls with too strong cramps or the fear of being pregnant or miscarried better than y/n.
he liked her i the moment she set her foot into the pitt. and not just him, everybody else as well; even jack, catching a slight glimpse a month ago as she was listening to the night shift attending physican with all open ears and wide eyes in the staff room, appreciating that he opened up to her in the little few minutes of their break.
he couldn't be mad at her for being late when she was a super doctor, a super girl, and a super, young, promising woman.
and robby robinavitch knew that nobody else could.
