Haven't done a portrait since last November but I think I still got it 😀 the challenge I gave myself this time was to use the 5 different brands of Derwent pencils I own, three of which I've never used before even after having them for years. Some were more fun to use than others but I think they gave me a good final result! Whaddya think!

"Feathered rainbow"

So glad to finally call this piece done, not really happy with the texture of the paper that is impossible to smooth out but i wanted to try the powder blender on it lol (which worked fantastic on this paper btw) Derwent procolour, Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran'dache Luminance +titanium white, powder blender and textured fixative (by Brush&PencilsAlyona Nickelsen) on A4-ish Uart800 grit paper. Own reference photo used of a gorgeous splendid grass parakeet that lives in a park near my house :)

“Resting Pollinator”

Had my eye on this picture from the “Flowers” newsfeed . Today’s tool time was a success all around. Used Derwent Procolour pencils, Brush & Pencil Colored pencil blender and Sennelier Pencil Fixative on UART 800 grade sanded paper

The these were the only colors I could get loose because the smaller sets don’t have the colors I wanted challenge.

Procolor are basically medium opaque Derwent

The difference between Derwent colored pencils

A quick well basically on what’s the difference between three of the Derwent lines- Studio/Artist, Procolour, and Coloursoft

Studio/Artist- hard, dry pecils (Studio is the budget version, think Verithin with quality control) for fine lines and details, tips don’t wear down as fast unless you press super hard and wear holes in your paper

Procolour- middle of the road basic general color pencil 

Coloursoft- soft, smooth, opaque (like Prismacolor but with quality control) wears down past and requires frequent sharpening 

There are the same colors in all three lines and you can mix and match as needed, they are wax based.

The Lightfast line is an oil based pencil with similar colors but different properties. 

The Soft Drawing is clay based and wears down if you look at it funny.
