Hey other ALTs, I wonder if you guys get as much down time as I do. For example this week I have 6 classes overall, and have little to no input for lesson planning etc (not from lack of trying, got some traditionalist JTEs).

I’m just curious about what kind of non-work related things you do at work? Aside from studying Japanese/English?

Tip for summer desk warming, just because you think the school is empty doesnt mean that dancing at your desk is a good idea... the caretaker and admin staff will always be here when the teachers are away at meetings

Most people hate it, and to be fair I do too on the grounds that it is completely arbitrary and inefficient. Just desk warming things

I just got taken away to the gym by the Japanese teacher, PE teacher, Female maths teacher and Married cute math teacher to play with hula hoops...

its 37 degrees in the gym and I learnt today I cant hula hoop anymore

Enkais and Hokkaido

My Principal spent around 2 hours last Friday night telling me about how great Otaru in Hokkaido is. (we are in northern Hyogo). One of the teachers went to Hokkaido last week and gave out treats from there about 10 mins ago today. 

My Principal came running into the staff room in a panic, speaking quickly about how he felt so guilty for talking about Otaru so much that I thought i had to visit the next day. He was so sorry and all I could do was laugh when I told him it wasnt me. 

After realizing it was the maths teacher he laughed and apologized and then ended the convo with a defeated, ‘well you should still go to Otaru when you have the chance anyway’

Woo schools out for summer

I’ve been here long enough so that when either my VP or Principal says it’s ok to leave early, I slowly pack up. Sometimes I stay a lot longer but since its officially ‘summer vacation’ there’s little point in being here in the afternoon...

So once I post this I’m going to 失礼します out and grab an icecream on the drive home, woo adult life

Got left out of the omiyage circuit today, everyone is snacking on their treats and I am trying to not be bitter or sad.
