Any tips for someone developing a Tolkien OC?

Okay so I’m not sure I’m the right person to ask this,buuutt…

I guess if we were to start at the VERY very beginning,  you’d give your OC physical features, traits,personality, that kind of stuff. Then, figure out a solid background/originstory – you can start with either or [the appearance, traits, etc or the originstory first]. All of this is pretty much essential if you’re looking to useyour OC for roleplays.

Maybe have some relationships/friendships with canon charactersor other OCs somewhat established? This is optional, I guess.

Oh, and if you don’t want to have a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu for anOC you’ll have to look elsewhere because mine totally is one XD;

Yet I feel like that shouldn’t be necessarily a bad thing? Ithink these ‘MS’ OCs get a lot of criticism and bad rep mainly for things likebeing SUPER strong, godmodding in fights, beating the canon characters[evil OR good] and always winning on things; being SUPER FLAWLESS perfect ALL the timeand EVERYONE loves them. Best to steer clear from the first couple. Theexception to the rule would be like, if you’re roleplaying with someone who’stotally fine if you cross some boundaries like that…but you have to ask themif they’re ok with it first out of courtesy [and partly not to scare them away]. I think Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus arefine so long as they’re not over-the-top, notalways winning shit or ‘hooking up’ with ALL the lead canons at once, ya know?If you’re going to establish a CanonxOC romantic relationship, best to steeraway from the canonically married/involved couples. But what do I know? Take arisk and see what happens! You can always call it ‘AU’ lol.
