393 km north of Alice Springs, 760 km south of Katherine.. in the middle of nowhere. Karlu Karlu as they’re known by the local Warumungu Aboriginals - are a collection of huge, red, rounded granite boulders. Millions of years of erosion shaped one of the most epic landscapes I ever seen. These rocks have a deep spiritual meaning in the Aboriginal mithology (Devils Marbles are the eggs of the rainbow serpent). Dawn at the Devils Marbles. I'm having difficulty choosing just one photo to convey how beautiful this place is. It is spiritually and cultural significant to the surrounding Mobs who have similar dialects. The devil sure has plenty of marbles to play with. The balancing of one boulder precariously on top of another defies logic. The marbles haven't been stacked, rather the granite rock they are part of has broken down around them, the bulk of which is still in the ground below them. The Devils Marbles Campground filled quite quickly. There is a cost of $3.30 per person but worth it to see the Marbles at Sunset and Dawn.
