Hey- I know you’re busy but but for a writing prompt could you please do “please don’t cry” + a kiss on the forehead? Thank you so much!
Hello, dear. Thank you for your understanding and sorry for the long wait! I hope this is worth it.
Prompt: “Please don’t cry” + kiss on the forehead.
Plot: the Reader’s day couldn’t get any worse. Could it?
You weren't having a good day. It happened, it wasn't a big deal. You didn't even know why, but since you woke up in the morning you felt like a heavy feeling was trapping you, enveloping you and pushing you further under the covers. The Master had woken you up by blasting music in the TARDIS. You could hear it from the console room down to the corridor and to your room. It was a classical piece you recognized as one of his favourites as he sometimes hummed it when he was deep in thought and it was giving you a headache.
You huffed and covered your head with your pillow. You just didn't feel like moving at all. But the Master seemed to have no intention of lowering the volume; on the contrary, you felt it so clearly it was like it was playing right next to your bed.
Finally, you decided to get up and get ready for the day. Usually, the prospect of having a whole day full of crazy adventures with the Master made you jump out of bed. Today, everything seemed to have lost colour.
-Gooood morning, sunshine! - the Master welcomed you opening his arms and smiling widely. At least he seemed to be having a good day.
-Morning- you muttered rubbing your head and bringing the warm cup of coffee closer to you.
-You look tired my dear, haven't you slept enough? -
-I'm good- you said, your voice still hoarse with sleep.
-If you say so. We're gonna have some fun today! -
You hummed and listened to his rumbling about a certain Ronax or Corax or something and how he deserved a slow, excruciating death.
You brought the cup to your lips and cursed under your breath as the hot liquid burned your tongue.
The Master didn't pay attention to that as he kept talking like a professor taking an important class.
You didn't care much about plans, you usually ended up not following them anyway. You were too busy focusing on your empty stomach. The Master could go on days without eating, god knows how, so the kitchen in the TARDIS was usually empty. It didn't bother you, usually, but today you just felt like it was one more trick the universe had pulled on you to make your day awful.
When the Master was done with his monologue (which didn't help your headache whatsoever), you just followed him outside. You got instantly hit by the blinding light of two suns.
-Oh yeah, forgot to tell you to bring sunglasses-
You groaned and covered your eyes as best as you could, trying your best not to trip on the rock-covered floor.
-Is there a place to have breakfast in here? -
The Master began walking toward the tallest building visible. -Nope. The Thals don't need food. They usually ingest their own gastric juices-
-That's absolutely disgusting- you commented trying to shake the image off your head.
The Master suddenly stopped walking and you bumped into him.
-Ssh- he took your hand and quickly led you behind a well-hidden wall and a few seconds later a guard dressed in shining silver clothes walked right next to you. The Master stared at him passing by, keeping his hand in yours.
When he was sure you were safe, he turned to you.
-Alright, here's how we're gonna do it. You are going to get inside the building and get to the safe room. To get in you'll show them this- the Master handed you his psychic paper. -Then, you're going to sound the alarm next to the door and wait for me there. Everyone is gonna run out and that's when I'm coming in-
You tried to listen carefully, although you felt tired like never before. You always wanted to be helpful to the Master but right now all you wanted was to eat and get back to bad.
-Y/N- the Master snapped his fingers in front of you. -Are you listening? - he asked with a slightly annoyed frown. -Am I asking too much? -
You hated when he talked to you like that as if you were an idiot.
-Yes, I am- you bitterly replied. -Get in, sound the alarm and wait for you-
-Now go, we don't have much time-
You walked out of your hiding place and inside the tall building. He looked a lot like a medieval tower but inside it was like a high tech space ship.
As soon as you stepped in, you felt everyone's eyes on you. It was probably an impression as a lot of people were walking in and out, you probably looked like one of them, just facing a workday. You decided to ignore your gut feeling telling you, no shouting at you to abort mission. You weren't going to disappoint the Master and make him talk to you like to a five years old. You could do this.
Someone hit your shoulder hard making you stumble. You looked back at them and they glanced at you meanly.
You decided to shut up and keep walking and reached the back of the huge room. You tried to look as casual as possible as you approached the guards, who were looking at you coldly, back straight and spears in hand.
-Hello, I need to enter the safe room-
One of the guards extended his hand.
You took the psychic paper and showed it to them, trying your best to make your hand stop shaking.
The guards took way too long to examine it but eventually gave it back to you and stepped aside.
-Thank you- you nodded and walked past them. A few meters away, you saw the door to the safe room.
"That was easy" you thought as you could already feel the smell of a nice, warm breakfast and the feeling of the soft pillow under your head.
Except there were two buttons.
You looked back and forth between the red one and the green one. The Master hadn't told you about two buttons, did he?
You looked back at the guards. One of them was staring at you. You cursed under your breath trying to keep your composure. The Master was waiting for you to sound the alarm. He trusted you with this.
"Alright think" you urged yourself. "Two buttons. Red and green. If you were an alarm button, which colour would you be? "
The guards were now talking quietly between them. Talking about you?
You felt so tired. Why did you even get out of bed at all?
"Okay, okay" you tried to calm down. "It's gotta be the red one right? I mean, it's an alarm. Alarm equals danger, danger equals red". It was hard to keep the track of your own thoughts but you were fairly sure you had never seen a green alarm button. You took a deep breath.
And you pressed the red one.
For a second or two you didn't hear anything. Then the two guards turned around and pointed their spears to you.
-Freeze! - they shouted and, of course, you started running.
You had no idea where the corridor led but you could feel the guards only a few steps behind you so you were ready to take a chance.
You ran as fast as you could, feeling your feet hurting and your legs giving up a couple of times. You could see the end of the corridor ahead of you. You had no choice but to stop and try to catch your breath. Turning around, you saw the guards turning the corner and running toward you. You backed up, your back hitting the wall. That was it. The plan had gone wrong and it was all your fault. The Master didn't know where you were, you were alone, the guards would catch you and probably kill you on the spot, or worse.
You could feel tears burning the corner of your eyes when suddenly you lost your balance and fell backwards.
Your back hit the floor of the TARDIS and you saw the Master looking down at you with an annoyed expression.
You quickly got up. -How did you...-
-You were taking too much time- he simply explained walking toward the console.
You turned toward the fake wall. It was now closed and the TARDIS started shaking, sign that you were taking off.
You glanced at the Master, his expression left you no doubt: he was mad.
-Master...- you tried to apologize but he raised his hand to stop you.
He ruffled his hair in a nervous gesture and then placed his hands on his hips, looking at the floor.
-I asked you to do one simple thing- he said raising his index. -Just the one-
You gulped, wanting to disappear. You hated to disappoint him, but to be fair, it hadn't been completely your fault.
-And you couldn't even press a damn button! - he shouted.
You took a step back, watching him as he scratched his beard.
-This was important, Y/N. I mean what...what happened to you? - his expression had softened but you would have rathered to face his rage than his disappointment. You felt your eyes sting once again.
-I don't...- you looked away. -I don't know. You told me to press the buttons but there were two of them and I didn't...-
And suddenly, you were crying. Tears started streaming down your face without you being able to control them. You did your best to wipe them away but as soon as you dried your cheeks, new salty, hot tears wetted them again.
The Master's eyes widened.
-Oh no- he whispered. He never knew how to act when you showed your emotions. You hardly ever cried, you didn't like to show your vulnerable side to anyone, especially him, who always looked so strong and confident. But now you just couldn't control yourself.
You covered your face with your hands. It had been a tough day, since the beginning you had felt like everything had gone wrong.
You felt the Master getting closer to you.
-Y/N...- he said softly, tentatively taking your hands off your face.
You looked at him from heavy eyelids. -I'm sorry-
The Master looked at you with a kindness in his eyes he hardly displayed.
-Don't ever apologize for being vulnerable in front of me- he said cupping your cheeks.
-And don't worry about today...I should have been more careful-
You sniffled as he stroked away a solitary tear.
-We'll try again another time. Alright? -
You nodded and he kissed your forehead.
-Now can I get a smile? -
The corner of your mouth twitched up.
-What do you say if we go and grab something to eat in that little coffee shop on Moon 34 you like so much? -
Your smile widened and you nodded.
The Master managed to surprise you every time.
