Having medical ocd (or ocd in general) is crazy bc what do you mean I’ve just convinced myself I have endometriosis?
If you spend like a lot of time worrying about whether you technically have OCD or not you are actively meeting the criteria btw
bruh i just realized the reason one of my main love languages is words of affirmation is bc i have ocd and reassurance cycle, and that reassurance comes in the form of words and reminders of care. it’s all ocd everything wrong with me is ocd fml
The weight that gets lifted when you finally get diagnosed is crazy, especially if you have a strong feeling you have it but hate self diagnosing
"lmao I let the intrusive thoughts win, I'm so delulu" I'm begging you to have a single ounce of understanding and common sense before you say things like this.
Tired of random tiktok people in comment sections saying they "let the intrusive thoughts win" when they mean impulsive thoughts, instead. There is a huge difference.
And stop using the term delusional unless you actually fucking are. It's gross.
Sincerely, someone who is having a very bad time with ocd and delusions today.
Had a meltdown last night trying to tell my mom I think I'm autistic. She immediately shut me down and said it's impossible.. that she "knows" I'm not... I currently have a knot on my head from hitting myself there before I could calm myself.. I felt angry at first, then stupid, and then guilty for the entire thing. I should have known better than to mention it. It's so painful. All I ask for is an open ear, and it seems that is too much for the people I have been taught to rely on.
For anyone who thinks OCD is just being neat or liking things to be just right let me explain how my OCD is fucking up my life today.
I have an incredibly untidy room right now because I’m still unpacking from having gone home over Christmas. I want to tidy because I need the floor space. However, every time I put something away my brain is telling me that I didn’t do it properly and that it didn’t feel right. Therefore I have to do exactly the same thing again. And again. And again.
My OCD works in powers of 2. So if it doesn’t feel right twice, then I have to do it twice more. Then if it’s still not satisfied I have to do it another four times to make it up to eight. Even if on the seventh attempt it feels right and absolutely perfect I still have to do it again because I haven’t finished the cycle to the right number. This can go on for half an hour on the less good days.
Meanwhile my brain is telling me that this is irrational and that I should just give up. Which sometimes I do, but this then means that all I can think about whilst continuing on with ‘productive’ things is how I didn’t finish the cycle and it makes my hands ache and twitch because it wasn’t completed.
Having people saying that they’re OCD about certain things is really hard to hear because it implies that you can switch it off and ignore it, when in reality I have to cope with it everywhere I go. Sometimes it makes me want to touch everything and I mean everything I walk past, other days I have to not touch anything at all. Some days I can’t even consider showering because the touch of the water is too uncontrollable and random that I can’t cope with having that on me.
So this is what slows me down. When I take twice as long to do things it’s not because I’m procrastinating. It’s because I’m fighting what my brain is telling me to do so I can get the bare minimum done. That is what my OCD is like. That is how I have to live.
