The spiritual path is not all smiles and sunshine. Sometimes it’s about boundaries and saying no. _ When I first started practicing I said yes to everything. I had to learn how to say no. I wanted to be that easy going “cool” girl who was down with anything and everything. But then I learned that a true yes is only possible once you learn how to say no. _ It’s not easy but clear honest communication is a skill that yoga can help with. Of course we can only ever communicate to others what we clear about within ourselves. If we are deluding ourselves, then we can easily fall into a trap of self-fulfilling delusion. And we are all deluding ourselves somewhat (because we aren’t fully enlightened!). That’s ok. _ We are all doing the best we can at any given moment. _ It’s scary to say no, but sometimes necessary. Especially as a woman, I have so much pressure to say yes in countless uncomfortable circumstances in my life. Even though I’m married men approach with all sorts of offers or another. What often happens when I say no (as kindly as possible) is a backlash. Despite the fear of what might happen I’ve learned how to say no.
