10:59pm | work has monopolized my life

I miss writing. It occurred to me recently that I haven't written anything creatively or 'just for me' in months. On my commute home, I promised myself I would tap out a lil note on tumblr at least before the REM cycle thing tonight. Digital Editor life has been intense. I've been spearheading the video production (taking on producer and video editing roles), managing and optimizing content for online publications and crafting brand identity on the internet. I find myself gravitating towards work folks in my spare time because they can relate to the daily and life has become so strange. Now that I've started finding my groove in my role, I decided that it's time to devote energy to strengthening my social justice muscles again. I've done a number of freelance pieces for LGBTQ and feminist publications (including my own) this year but I feel like there hasn't been enough of this content in my life. ...but fear not, friends, I've been getting my activism on in subtle ways. For example, one of the stories I'm handling editor for is about Aboriginal Day and I pushed to hire only an Indigenous writer. And now, thanks to the help from my friend Rebecca Rose, I scored an awesome contributor that did the story right. My beagle and I filmed for a music video and I have way more garbage to share -- but my roommate just arrived home. OH I HAVE A FUNNY STORY! Tomorrow. I promise. NIGHT!
