Acrocanthosaurus atokensis
Its name means “high-spined lizard from Atoka,"referring to the tall neural spines along its back and to the location it was discovered, Atoka county in Oklahoma.
The spines are believed to have had a thick hump similar to those found in Bison , which may have been used as fat storage.
It is believed it was the largest carnivore in its ecosystem and was one of the largest land carnivores to have lived in America.
It lived during the Cretaceous Period and is one of the few theropods of which we have a good understanding of their brain based on CT scans , with brains more similar in structure to a crocodiles and structures indicating a strong sense of smell.
I draw most of my dinosaur skulls on my university commute, I also take these traditional art pencil drawings and import them to my procreate to create a neat digital version that i can use to make stickers and more (links in my pinned post) !!!
