Something I don't see talked about at all is how many stories in Disney spin-off media seem to take place sometime during the original movie they're based on.

For example, Pinocchio is almost always seen as a puppet still, Bambi is still a fawn, Robin Hood is still an outlaw pursued by Prince John, and many The Lion King stories show Simba as a cub.

The exception seems to be stories based on the princess movies, which almost always take place after their respective "happily ever after" endings.

This sort of thing was happening in comics and children's books decades before the direct-to-video midquels and interquels were a thing. It's like Disney was reluctant to show these characters in any other way besides their more familiar- and possibly more marketable- earlier versions.
