Press Play! is the debut mini album released by BigHit Entertainment’s five member girl group, TRICKSHOT! It dropped on November 1st, 2019, with a total of five songs, RE:tro Future serving as its lead-single.

✘ 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙙 & 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

The overall concept of this era was a future nostalgia, to bring us back to the “Retro Future”, featuring bright colors that reminded the 80′s with a hint of technological dreams. The music video for the title track paired sexy, suggestive and at times sickening visuals with a breezy, synth-driven track that made for a jarring viewing experience.

✘ 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨. 

    ★  𝘙𝘌:𝘵𝘳𝘰 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 ‘s beat slaps with a percussive force, complimented by addictive bass and flourishes of funk guitar. This catchy tune tells a simple story on how to have fun, enjoy the moment and get funky. It’s all about charisma and free spirit. 

    ★  𝘌𝘭𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 is an upbeat, bass-driven introduction to the album which suggests the album will be fun and bubbly. However this is quickly undercut by the following track, Bad Boy. Still, Elavator brings us feelings of excitment and early stages of dreaming. It’s a song to make your heart bloom. 

    ★  𝘉𝘢𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘺 is primarily an R&B song with elements of hip hop that has a synth melody and heavy bass sound. It details the attraction and emotions between a 'bad boy' and a cold woman, and also states in its lyrics a story about the beginning of said couple's relationship.

    ★  𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘍𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 is a blast of smoothness. The song can almost remind us of a jazzy number, but not quite. It also has an interesting blend of R&B, which brings the emotional side of the lyrics into play. It describes how we can feel the emotions from our past relationships despite breaking up. 

    ★  𝘖𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘢 𝘔𝘺 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘥 is the final song on the release, and it is described as an alt-R&B track. The lyrics translate difficult feelings into simple thoughts, describing how it feels to have a person on your mind for 24/7. 

✘ 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨.

Namjoon wrote the lyrics for two songs of this album, “Wind Flower” and “Bad Boy”, had received the help of some members of trickshot to write the latter;

Yoongi, alongside Seven, produced “Outta My Head”  a song written by the girl herself;

Bad Boy charted #2 on the Gaon Digital Sales Chart;

RE:tro Future charted #1 on the Gaon Digital Sales Chart;

The fan theories involving this era were wild and managed to grab the attention of netizens around the world. They mainly consisted on pointing out whether the girls were time travelling, dreaming or facing reality;

Numerous articles were written due to the bold and wild performance by trickshot on the MV’s, especially on RE:tro Future. The media called the five member group a well made criticism to the industry and even added “never seen a girl group like such before”, “marvellous and fresh”, “innovative and peculiar”;

RE:tro Future became the fastest girl group debut MV to surpass 100 million views.
