So in Discoddchat episode 2 at the 1:00:15 mark, Lorne says the Oktigi (which he called Gloktigi for some reason) typically use dead bodies as hosts. Later in Discoddchat episode 4 around 1:02:55, he says not only are Oktigi able to take over thier hosts body but also obtain knowledge the host has. And it got me thinking; how much knowledge does an Oktigi get from their host?
There is the obvious stuff that could be useful to an Oktigi depending on the context, such as the hosts basic motor functions, their skills like their fighting style, credit card information etc. But what about the host’s memories? What about all the miscellaneous bits of facts and information they’ve ever learned? What about the memories of their life? The moments from their childhood? the interactions they’ve had with other people in their life? With their friends, family or lovers? Every experience they’ve had? Their core memories? Everything they love, every one of their deepest fears? All the experiences that made that person them? How could an Oktigi sift through all of that? How the hell would an Oktigi manage to look into a hosts brain for knowledge or to simply take control without being bombarded with the overwhelming amount of knowledge and memories and experiences thats in just the conscious mind of a person without experiencing sensory overload?
I know I’m reading way too deep into this, but when you think about it, certain things about what we’ve learned about the Oktigi start to make sense.
Like, what if the reason most Oktigi according to Lorne posses dead bodies of sapient creatures rather then living ones is because most Oktigi, unless they have some supernaturally strong willpower and can just tune out most stuff to get the information they desire, absorb so much of the host’s knowledge and memories they become overwhelmed, lose control of the host and even their sense of self? the Oktigi unwittingly experiencing and absorbing memories of the host until the line between they and them is blurred beyond recognition?
Again, I’m probably way off and reading way too deeply into Lorne’s words, but. Idk I just find the idea of Oktigi taking the knowledge of their hosts, and possibly more, such a fascinating concept.
