The fact that people who are not into Sentryagent are calling it a crack ship is starting to sound actually disingenuous to me.
Because from the way they talk about this pairing, you would imagine Bob and John barely interacted through the whole movie, and that, most importantly, their interactions only consisted in them openly hating each other.
They seem to deliberately forget that Bob and John's relationship goes through a whole arc throughout the movie, simply because it didn't get the same focus as Bob and Yelena's rightfully did.
But they overlook the fact that Bob and John only started off antagonizing each other in the Vault, bumping their heads in a way that perfectly highlighted both of their personalities and issues, John's pride and anger and Bob's self destructiveness.
In fact, I'd argue that Bob was fundamental to John's own character arc, because he showed John how his own pride, which was a reflection of his bruised ego, made him severely misjudge and mistreat a guy he had just met. Bob showed John how pointless and detrimental his harshness is.
And this is how they actually grew closer, because John eventually understood he didn't get Bob when he met him, that's why we were shown John instinctively protecting Bob from his father, the moment he saw the man aggressively coming towards him, John rushing to hug Bob in the Void after Yelena did it and John complimenting Bob in a genuine way after they escaped the Void.
And how did Bob react to this? He held into John's arm as he hugged him and he giddily smiled at John's compliment, even if he hadn't any idea of what John was talking about.
And in the post credit scene, their relationship seems to be perfectly friendly, with John actually intruding in the conversation between Alexei and Bob and kinda diffusing the situation, when Alexei was definitely pushing Bob to use his powers, with his ironic "ride Bob into the sky" question —which we love to joke about and interpret in certain ways for obvious reasons—.
So yes, even if you don't like this couple, there still are plenty of reasons why other people like their dynamic and want to explore a possible romance developing between the two.
I don't wanna come off as petty, but who am I kidding? I'm pretty petty about this, especially because I've only seen this behaviour towards this particular ship, which coincidentally is a gay ship in a mcu related fandom.
genuinely fascinated by the tendency i've seen in some posts already of reducing thaisha to occtis's mom or even more bafflingly julien's mom?
like yes, the tone/relationship vibes that occtis and thaisha enter the scene with are a mother/son or mentor/mentee type dynamic, but, young though he may be, occtis is a grown man. a young man, but still an adult. he's capable and intelligent and perhaps in need of some guidance, but not in need of being babied.
that's not to say that its entirely incorrect to characterize thaisha as acting motherly sometimes, she is a mom! she has kids around occtis's age! that will absolutely impact the way she interacts with him! but she is so much more than that? she's a druid, she's a revolutionary, she's conspiring against a corrupt government, she's a caretaker of her home (the world) but had to leave her home (her family) to do it, she's walking the old path in a world trying to move away from that, her family gave the people the power to fight back against the gods and break free from oppression. thaisha's a wonderfully complex and compelling character and of all of that we're going to just make her occtis's mom?
there is a way to portray her relationship with occtis without making that the only thing about her, and if you have an inability to do so you should sincerely think about why that is. if, after all of the scenes they've had together, you look at her and julien and try to boil that down to her being a mother-figure to him because she displayed empathy once after his family was slaughtered, ignoring everything else up until now, that's something you've got to think about even more.
"Aw so cool ur a therian i wish i was a therian ive always wanted to be a parrot" ok then be a parrot.
If you know what a therian is and you want to be one. Then go ahead. Be one. Its ok. Go for it. Be an animal, whos gonna stop you?
"You have to be BORN a therian"
Oh? Fuck you. I wasnt born an agender transmasc selkie actually. I was born as a very annoying little girl.
I thought this whole movement is about the freedom of identity and how who you are at birth isnt set in stone? Or is it just another label for those with the most power in the community to dictate and police?
Isnt that an interesting thought.
This is probably not the place to say this but whatever. The reason why there's so many women nowadays who are turning conservative, want to be tradwives and don't believe in 50/50 is that for 20 twenty years society has been teaching them that they have to be strong, independent and take the role of a provider while simultanously taking care of the household and the children.
Meanwhile, the men are not taking any new responsibilities. What's more, they are delegating their traditionally male responsibilities to women under the guise of being "femenist", which actually allows them to work LESS.
This was foreseen. Femenists have always known that this would happen. Don't believe me? Arlie Hohschild was already speaking about it in her 1989 book, The Second Shift. It's funny (and also kinda eerie) how well she describes today's society, although the book was literally written almost 30 years ago. We've progressed so little, in retrospective.
Anyway, fuck that. I shouldn't have to turn into a superhuman in order to fulfill someone else's political agenda, and neither should you! I'm not saying you need to vote conservative and I'm certainly not saying you will only ever be happy if you become a tradwife. But for God's sake, don't let men mistreat you this way. It's painful to watch!
I've read some fucking horror stories on the internet about these first world parasite-men just munching off of women, and I'm kinda glad in my country it's still not well seen for men to be anything else than providers. Sorry not sorry. I swear I'm not a Magazuelan 😭
Hot take but typing quirks are ableist.
I will block you if you reblog or post things that are overwhelmingly full of typing quirks, ESPECIALLY if they're in disability spaces. Stop. They're not legible enough. They can't be read by screenreaders. They overwhelmingly have no translation because they're "simple enough to understand." Get your shit together. Not everyone can understand typing quirks no matter how simple they are. $ and S maybe look similar but they are not the same. & and A may look similar but they are NOT THE SAME CHARACTER. Leetspeak is very popular but it is often hard to read and if someone asks for a translation please give them a translation. Infact a translation/alt text in the original message would be very helpful.
Don't censor things like SH (self-harm) or SA (sexual assault) with "$A" or "$H" either please. It's just as hard to understand.
may we STOP treating alterhumanity (& nonhumanity), xenogenders and neopronouns, as well as a whole ass batch of other things as something that only kids (or nd kids) experience/use?
like please c'mon it's not that hard to not water down these identities to just kids having fun. it's the same as every other identity and should be respected. stfu if you think otherwise
