Atsumu for all his bravado and assholeness and pushing people away is terrified of being alone. he's always had Osamu near him, with him, playing volleyball. he doesn't know what to do with himself when he's alone, and secretly he can't stand himself. so he throws himself into social things, constantly surrounding himself with people whether he likes them or not. he runs away from himself all the time and he hasn't quite figured out what to do about it. Osamu is afraid of cages. he can't be stuck or held down or forced into something he doesn't want to do. the thought of a self-made cage, doing what others want from him because he doesn't want to disappoint the ones he cares about is a double-edged sword. he hasn't been happy for awhile now and yet he's scared of ending up backed into another one. is life just a choice between which cage you can live with? he can't answer that. Kita, trust the process 1% better every day, is scared of becoming mediocre. so he pushes. every day. to be that little bit better, to get that little bit stronger. because what else there? he can't stand the thought of being average and being left behind in the dust of those with more talent. he tells himself he's fine with people having more talent than him, being better. but its always a lie. he wants that spotlight too. he tries to tell himself he doesn't.
