what are the best harnesses that have a handle on top for lifting? i can only think of ruffwear. rogz has a design like that but they don’t do an XS size.

Do you have any dog harness recommendations? My boy doesn’t pull, so I’m not worried about stopping it, but I’d feel more comfortable with him in a harness. Thanks!

Ahhhh I’m sorry it took me so long to get to this! I have a couple articles that my dogchat has shared and I’ve been meaning to read them too, because we need to get a harness for Addy to wear when Jack hooks her to his wheelchair. I don’t have any brand recs at the moment, unfortunately, because I just don’t have any experience with any types of harnesses yet. But here’s the articles & they may help you find the right thing!

Dog gear catalogue for today’s walk!

We got our harnesess. Today’s are ruffwear palisades. I like that the backpacks are detachable without needing to take the whole harness off the dog. I also like that they come with two free water bags each.

Dog wrangler of choice is my tail.runner handsfree double dog set. Nice bungee cords and traffic handles for those road crossings. Have matching collars.

Baskerville muzzle just in case. Ended up not using this today as it was nice and quiet about with all other dogs also leashed.

Reward bag from GiveADogAHome on etsty. The bag of many pockets, so many pockets. Rewards, poo bags, bonus rewards, my mobile.

All in a vibrant red to match my not pictured dog walking vest. Which is the same red as the harnesses.

Car set up pictures! Today was the first day of using it for both dogs since it got installed on Friday :)

Details of the bits and bobs below

The main barrier is custom built and fitted, I’m still able to access my interior storage and the whole thing has a false bottom for my spare tyre/emergency tools. As you can see, I can still access my side doors - either for more airflow or if the back is inaccessible for any reason. I can also lock it, in addition to the car.

I had the frame measured last weekend and picked it up on Friday. People in the dogcords have been listening to me day dream over getting one for months.

I had this built for camping/travelling and to be able to attend training/dog things safely without dealing with annoying crate logistics. (The lack of a car barrier has been a barrier to me going to things, basically).

I like that I can attach the water bucket and muzzles to the inside of it.

I have another barrier to divide dog from people, it’s just a cheapy from kmart. I hang towels off it, and it’s to reduce dog distraction and save the remaining seatbelts from Thistle.

The inside of the car is just a snooza dog bed covered by a water resistent non-slip backseat protector. There’s more than enough space for both dogs to stretch out and have a nap. It’s pretty cushy, could probably double as a camping bed for all of us (note this for later...).

The barrier has nothing to do with driving safety (although theoretically it would help to improve the crumple zone a touch? Either way, I have the dogs in the middle for safety if some idiot rear ends me). 

For travel safety I use The Car Harnesses of delight (Ezydog Drive Car Harness).

The car harnesses I have were released in 2017 and meet these crash testing safety standards:  Australia (ADR42/04) Europe (ECE Regulation 16) USA (FMVSS 213).

One thing I’m concerned about with car crashes, beyond ensuring the dog isn’t loose in the car and being flung about is to remove them from the car in an emergency - that’s where the gif comes in. Both harnesses are attached to a Ute Chain - these hold on to whatever they’re attached to but can be quickly removed by anyone with fingers to turn into rather short chain leads.

I have mine attached to two attachment points that used to belong to the seats. I have them double back on themselves so they end up being about 6 inches long when in transit. This lets the dogs sit/drop and sometimes stand in place - but not move about the vehicle, or play with each other, and if I do stop suddenly it stops them from being flung about.

Can I ask what harness is Thyme's puppy harness? And where you bought it from?

Thyme had a really generic, light, cotton h-style harness!

It came from a grand Australian store of discount cheapness an okay quality: The Reject Shop!

Specifically the $8 one in the discount bin for $3ish because why spend money on a harness I thought he’d outgrow?
