Liraz had heard it said that there was only one emotion which, in recollection, was capable of resurrecting the full immediacy and power of the original--one emotion that time could never fade, and that would drag you back any number of years into the pure, undiluted, feeling, as if you were living it anew. It wasn't love--not that she had any experience of that one--and it wasn't hate, or anger, or happiness, or even grief. Memories of those were but echoes of the true feeling. It was shame. Shame never faded, and Liraz realized only now that this was the baseline of her emotions--her bitter, curdled 'normal'--and that her soul was poisoned soil in which nothing good could grow.
Dreams of Gods & Monsters, Laini Taylor
"She smiled to herself. It was funny, she thought, but her smile turned wistful because she had nobody to tell. In the court, the soldiers were laughing, and she was in the shadows and no part of it."
Days of Blood and Starlight
This is one instance where a quote from a book resonates so strongly with me it physically hurts.
So what happened to the movie adaptation? It’s been over 7 years since the book came out and just a little less time since they confirmed a movie, so where the hell is it? I swear if Strange The Dreamer gets a movie before DoSaB I’m going to be livid. I just want my blue haired baby and her angelic love to hit the big screen is that so much to ask?
Book: Dreams of Gods and Monsters Series: Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Book 3) Author: Laini Taylor Pages: 613 Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) Favorite Quote: “Soldiers and children do as they're told. Children grow out of it, but soldiers just die.” Recommendation: If you like amazing writing, good backstory, character development
Synopsis:
Two worlds are poised on the brink of a vicious war. By way of a staggering deception, Karou has taken control of the chimaera's rebellion and is intent on steering its course away from dead-end vengeance. The future rests on her. When the brutal angel emperor brings his army to the human world, Karou and Akiva are finally reunited - not in love, but in a tentative alliance against their common enemy. It is a twisted version of their long-ago dream, and they begin to hope that it might forge a way forward for their people. And, perhaps, for themselves. But with even bigger threats on the horizon, are Karou and Akiva strong enough to stand among the gods and monsters?
My Opinion:
I’m not going to lie. This ending left me very unsatisfied in regards to one of the main plots, but it was still a great book
Once again Laini Taylor’s writing is stunning and really brings you into the book
The characters in this series are amazing. And not just the main characters, but every single side character
There was more focus on the love story again which I liked, but it wasn’t the only thing the story focused on
This ending left it open for another series and I need that to happen.
