600 Hits!
Okay, so I put a poll up a couple of days ago on whether to continue TLNF (the main story), or to start writing a mini-fic on how Viggo met Hiccup in this AU. I’m also considering making a separate series on events apart from the main TLNF installments (focusing on events surrounding the HTTYD shorts or episodes of RttE, or backstories of certain characters).
What to write next?
TLNF Ch 6
Viggo’s story (NEW)
Other (put in reblogs/comments)
See Results (ME ONLY)
Of course, everybody is free to suggest mini-plots or character backstories they think I should write for this AU. Upcoming characters in Chapters 6-7 will include:
Trader Johann and his crew of Exotic dragons
Mildew (who is FAR less shitty than he is in canon but still a bit cantankerous) + Fungus
Flystorm (i’ll talk more about him and Mildew later)
Gunnar, Dogsbreath, and Wartihog (frequent bullies of the gang; Gunnar has an unpleasant history with Snotlout that will be explored later)
Venerable Lector (if you haven’t played Rise of Berk, you won’t know who he is, but he’s basically the keeper of wisdom and is in charge of Berk’s library)
Poise the Vast (Lector’s apprentice; also from Rise of Berk)
Book Wyrm (Rise of Berk; guards the Book of Dragons)
I think that’s it! Toothless also gets a super fun existential crisis in these two chapters, so buckle the fuck up buttercups!
Did anyone ask for this? No. Did I make it anyway? Yes.
soo umm I was wondering if I should do a recreation (or whatever you call it) of the httyd book illustrations and I decided I will..more drawings later!!! (◍•ᴗ•◍)❤
Anddddddd oh please pardon the drawing of Stoick the Vast and Gobber the Belch

Summary: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III has lived nearly seventeen years of life. In the span of those years, he's moved twelve times. Five of those years his mother was alive. Then a tragic accident left Hiccup in the sole care of his father, Stoick Haddock. Berk was where he had been born. That much he knew. Over every, single, move his father put him through, it wasn't until he reached sixteen years old that Berk was the city in which the father finally decided to plant roots. At least, that was what he claimed. After years of being victimized at each school he attended, Hiccup was determined to keep a low profile at Berk High. His past is intent on preying upon him, deciding that Berk was perfect place to come back into the light. However, like all good things that came to him, there was always something to drag him back down into the pit of despair. A dormant secret, tied into his family history, was ultimately brought into the light when Hiccup settles on Berk. A secret tied with guilt and tears, and it all goes downhill from there. He discovered what his father truly did those long stretch of years, and finds he has a gift that had been nonexistent for centuries.
For some time already I’ve been wondering how to adapt Dogsbreath the Duhbrain – a character from, HTTYD books - into the HTTYD-movie-series-verse. Recently, I finally figured a satisfactory combination of traits.
Fishlegs’ transformation was from runty to big. Alvin’s transformation was from slim and cunning to big and savage. Meanwhile the developmental pattern of Snotlout was somewhat assigned to Dagur (started off as obsessed with killing Hiccup, ended up warming up to him).
Keeping this in mind, I decided to transform the big and dumb sidekick of Snotlout into a handsome and cunning sidekick of Dagur.
My Dogsbreath goes by the name of Dogsbreath the Terrific. He belongs to the Berserker Tribe, where he lives with his grandmother. His mother – whom I named Horrorcow and made the sister of Fishlegs’ mother – died soon after having him. The father was a Viking whom she nursed back to health after his ship was destroyed by dragons, who left before she could tell him about the baby (it might very well have been Alvin, who was still a Berkian at that time).
Hi, Haddock! Greetings from Italy! (Hope I don't bother you pointing my nationality every time... it's just that I admire you so much, I would like you to recognize me as "The Italian one". Dumb, I know. Anyway...) If you're still into it, what do you think would be Hiccup&co.'s roles in Pacific Rim (Pilots, LOCCENT, Mechanics, Marshal etc). Thank you so much, have a good day!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THIS WOULD BE SUCH A FUN CROSSOVER!!!!
There are many potential ways for Hiccup and company to integrate into the post-apocalyptic world in Pacific Rim. For instance, Fishlegs isn’t that far off from Newt Geiszler. Both of them are extremely passionate and ecstatic about dangerous creatures that most people just want to kill. Fishlegs excitedly rattles off dragon statics and reads about their abilities, just as Newt finds his own nerdy interest in the kaiju. It’s also to point out that Fishlegs loves learning, especially the biological sciences, and in a modern world might sneak into the sciences for his studies if not his career. Fishlegs would work well in a scientific research team in a Pacific Rim AU.
But the thing that seems the most natural for me to do with Hiccup and company is to make them all jaeger pilots. In the canon HTTYD world, Hiccup and company are the first dragon riders. They’re riding the big, bad dangerous creatures and fighting to protect their home from dangers. That’s sort of what jaeger pilots do - get in big, bad machines and fight to protect their home from the kaiju threat. Just like the jaeger pilots are a small elite team of protectors… so also are the teenagers in the Dragon Academy. So intuitively I’d like to make them all jaeger pilots.
Ruffnut and Tuffnut are easy. They’re twins. They always get along. Canonically they ride Barf and Belch together. I have zero doubt that the Thorstons are drift compatible, just like the Wei Tang brothers piloting the Crimson Typhoon. They’ve got their own jaeger and they love the destruction that this powerful mech can bring.
Snotlout and Fishlegs I’m not sure what to do with. Snotlout is someone who would adore being in the fight; Fishlegs is someone who would be reluctant being in the fight. He’d prefer to study kaiju nerdily from a distance rather than fight them. Then, Snotlout and Fishlegs’ personalities don’t interact well at all. They wouldn’t pair together. There’s no way these two are drift compatible. We might have to bring in other characters from the broader HTTYD world to make this work. Snotlout and his seemingly best friend from the book series, Dogsbreath, might be a good fit. For Fishlegs, we could either pair him with Camicazi from the book series, or Heather from RTTE.
The last thing I am going to suggest is that Astrid and Hiccup have stories akin to Mako Mori and Raleigh Becket.
Hiccup, like Mako, is the son of someone important in the fight. Mako was raised by Stacker Pentecost, Hiccup by Stoick the Vast. Furthermore, both of them have been prohibited by their paternal figure from entering the fight. Despite the fact Mako has amazing potential to be a jaeger pilot, Pentecost refuses to let her be involved. Stoick, meanwhile, is extremely reluctant for Hiccup to enter Dragon Training… and is befuddled when he learns that Hiccup is the top of his class. So I would like to suggest that Hiccup is someone who doesn’t start out as a jaeger pilot… but only becomes one later when Astrid comes along.
Raleigh and Astrid aren’t quite as similar as Mako and Hiccup are, but we can make some analogies. Both of them see the importance of fighting the fight (yes, Raleigh loses sight of this for a little, but anyway), and both of them are connected to the fight by family. Astrid realizes that fighting dragons is something her parents have done and which she should do, too. Raleigh, of course, used to copilot with his brother. They’re bold, willing to keep going, and resilient fighters.
The story would play out a little differently with Hiccup and Astrid in the Pacific Rim setting. Hiccup would be the one insisting on trying to pilot with Astrid, while Astrid would be skeptical. Let’s say he’s a mechanic when she meets him - that’d make sense. Hiccup would make a good mechanic. But he really, really, really wants to pilot a jaeger, he talks to Astrid, and over time she comes to see how well they would actually fit together. Hiccup and Astrid are totally drift compatible. They could kick kaiju butt together.
So that’s what I would vote for in a Pacific Rim AU! The Dragon Academy elite dragon flying team becomes an elite team of jaeger pilots. Ruffnut and Tuffnut have one jaeger; Snotlout and Dogsbreath another; Fishlegs and Heather another; Hiccup and Astrid the last. Now, what would these jaegers be named? I vote HTTYD dragon species names. Ruffnut and Tuffnut are the co-pilots of the Hideous Zippleback; Snotlout and Dogsbreath the Monstrous Nightmare; Fishlegs and Heather the Razorwhip; Hiccup and Astrid the Night Fury.
