#doll knitting

I did it I made a sweater with buttons! I have wanted this for SO long.

(Yes I should block it butttt that would take time while it dried and stuff ... needed to put it on a doll immediately)

SO after going all the way to the thrift store to see if I could find any tiny buttons to cannibalize (no), I realized I have a dye pot. I can do WHATEVER I WANT.

The first batch bottom right turned too dark so fast I didn't even see it happen. The second batch bottom left I lightning-swizzled and rinsed fast, and even that was pretty dark. But a funny greenish-grey-brown that I think works! It blends in enough to keep the knit as the focal point. Even though the yellow buttons were y'all's favorites (mine too) they were a bit loud on this yarn ... and the sweater took me so long to knit I kinda didn't want to overwhelm it ...

Speaking of spare MTM Barbie hands with the boring "shovel hand" sculpt that I don't really care for... I did find a use for them, too.

I've been knitting some tiny doll-sized mittens like this

But they're annoying to put on doll hands, especially the more elegant sculpts with separate fingers. So, I realised, I can just take some spare mtm hands; the boring pose is actually useful for once; and use a craft knife to reduce the peg a bit to make the hands more easily swappable without having to heat them up every time.

Put the hand inside the mitten, and just swap the whole thing whenever I wanna put on or take off the dolls' mittens.

I already use MengF hands on most of my dolls, and they're easy to take off without heating. So I'll just take off the regular hand and replace it with the mitten hand! The skin tone match doesn't really matter since the hand will be hidden under the mitten anyway.

I took these photos this morning. I recently knitted this sweater and sewed the skirt yesterday. I will knit her something more summery soon, although this is the outfit I wear when I go out, it's really not very hot here.

Miniature knitting is... definitely an experience.

Pros: a tiny thread spun from wishes and moonlight, feels like knitting for tiny creatures, whimsical, mysterious, doesn't eat lots of yarn

Cons: oh my gods, when will this row end and why is this whole thing still smaller than my laptop??

And my list of potential and current WIPs seems to have an endless supply now 😅

After languishing in a project bag for months, I finally buckled down and finished this thing.

Brioche knit on US2 (2.75mm) needles, plain 1x1 rib on US0 ((2mm) needles with alternating cast-on using US1 (2.25mm) [body] and US000 (1.5mm) [cuffs] and a grafted bind off for the neck. Lion Brand Amazing Lace yarn.

Inspired by that 1890s cycling sweater, but after reading the original pattern, I just decided to wing it rather than trying to rework the antique pattern to scale and doll proportions.

Doesn't look like It yet, but I have been working on a Pennywise doll for my manager's birthday...which is in a few days. Running low on yarn and time. I will use dabs of bleach to weather the lavender to better match the reference photo I found, but I need to finish the pantaloons. I do not think I will have enough lavender to make the ankle and wrist ruffles. This yarn has been kicking around in my stash for like a decade, bits of it used here and there. I made a hippo out of it. But now after all these years there just isn't much left.
