One of my favorite things about Danny that I’m glad carried over to MCU is that he strongly values the ability of others to fight. A lot of hero’s are like “no you need to leave it’s too dangerous for you, I have to go it alone” and it’s like this character flaw where they have to learn to depend on others, whereas Danny is all like “wow you rock at buttkicking!” Or “Hey Colleen you wanna come kick people’s butts with me?”
Yes! Agreed! I love that about him too, and the fact that it reflects a broader theme of Danny being much less emotionally constipated than many other street-level superheroes (*cough*MattMurdock*cough*). He is delighted to connect with others– particularly via martial arts, since that’s his big passion– and he values and celebrates the skills of the people around him. He loves watching his friends kick butt, and teaching them and learning from them!
I’d imagine that this partly comes from his upbringing. He is used to everyone around him being able to defend themselves, and as a martial artist, he knows to respect other people’s training. It also ties into the fact that he doesn’t have that many civilian friends. Again, if we look at Matt, a lot of his overprotectiveness and loner tendencies come from the fact that he spends a lot of time with civilians, a whole bunch of whom have ended up dead due to fallout from his superhero activities. But Danny has always tended to gravitate toward people who know how to fight. And his personality is such that he is comfortable with allowing them to fight their own battles. And yes, I’m really glad this is true of MCU Danny as well, because I think it’s a very important part of his personality and a key element of how he relates to other people.
