Accident- थर्टी…
Dosa Corner is located on the corner of King and Bourke Streets. It was one of the few restaurants on King Street that was still open late tonight. As we arrived in a larger group, we were turned away from quite a few restaurants as they were closing up soon.
Papdi Chat
I initially wanted the samosa chat, but they had already sold out of samosas by that time. Papdi chat was the next option considering it has essentially the same sauces.
There was delicious crunchy pieces swimming in an extremely sweet creamy yogurt sauce. While it was nice, it tasted more like a dessert than a savoury snack.
Mango Lassi
Lassi is a traditional yogurt-based indian drink that has a blend of yogurt, water, spices, and sometimes fruit - in this case, mango. The drink was sweet and refreshing, with a thick and creamy texture.
Chicken Dosa + Idly + Vada
I'm not sure what the three curry flavours were, but they were all different in flavour and texture. The curry on the left was spicy, but very thin in texture. The middle curry was slightly thicker, with a sweet flavour and a mild chilli kick. The one on the right was very mild, almost like a runny yoghurt and filled with grains.
Idly is a savoury rice cake that is slightly spongy in texture.
- it was quite firm and dry in this dish
Vada is a savoury fried snack that can be described variously as fritters, doughnuts, or dumplings.
- it was very oily on the outside and dry in the centre.
Dosa is a type of pancake made from a fermented batter, similar to a crepe.
- The texture was deliciously crispy on the edges and chewy near the middle.
The centre of the Dosa was filled with a heavily spiced chicken mince. The chilli kick was mild, but added to the flavour of the different curries.
The staff were friendly but didn't really seem to want to be there. The service was slow and while the dishes were cheap and tasty, they were not the best the city has the offer.
