My opinion on the tiktok dot cake drama thingy

long story short there's a cake that's gone pretty viral, and it's being pretty hugely criticized for just being icing and sprinkles and having been made thousands of time before-and therefore not worth the hype.

Honestly I can see both sides. Like it's almost definitely not worth the money it likely costs and can definitely be recreated very simply at home as long as you can make a cake and icing. I personally don't think it even looks that nice (I don't like sprinkles all that much).

However, the snarky comments on people video's who are posting about the dot cake feel so stupid. Just let people enjoy their food. Yes it fundamentally is just a cake with sprinkles on, but you commenting that and stating the obvious is just boosting its popularity. Also the moral superiority act because you think a cake is stupid feels silly.

This whole “Dot cake vs cortadillo” nonsense is just nonsense. It’s hate for the sake of getting mad at nothing. It’s performative hate. Most of yall don’t even know what you’re talking about anyways!

“Dot cake” is just a branding name one specific bakery has given to a vanilla cake served in a round cup.

If you ordered a cortadillo and got funfetti in a cup, you would be offended by that as well! To conflate the two is an actual insult to Mexican culture.
