Chapter 1
Sun & Moon DoTae witnessprotection!au (2/?)
a/n: Hello! This is my first time writing such a long chaptered fic so I’m sure I have plenty of room to improve, but thank you for all the support you’ve shown so far.
Taeyong didn’t think he’d ever been this nervous in his life. Well, he had every reason to be. It’s not every day that you’re letting a mafia boss stay with you indefinitely. After sending Johnny on his way home, he figured that it would be best if he knew a little about the man himself. As Taeyong started going through endless lists of related articles, doubt had started to set in. This man was at the head of a war that had already cost too many lives, on both sides it seems, and had only been increasing in brutality over the past year since the new boss had come into power. What made it even more ridiculous is it seemed there was no real reason behind it anymore. Taeyong expected it to be over something like drugs, yet after reading all he could, there seemed to be no reason other than ‘they’re the enemy’. But, Johnny had assured him many times over the past month that he would be completely safe. If there was anyone Taeyong could trust, it would be him.
By this point, Taeyong was already a week into his cooking course. He only had to go in to lessons 3 times a week, two being on theory and one being practical. At first, he’d been worried that his lack of experience and him being older might alienate him from the rest of the group. Thankfully however, he was blessed with being seatmates with Kun, a Chinese man only a year younger than him and with the same love for cooking he had. He learnt quickly that when Kun moved over to Seoul, places were reluctant to hire him because of his lack of professional experience with Korean cooking, and he hoped that taking the course would help him. It also helped Taeyong feel more positive about the situation as a whole.
So here Taeyong was, a second away from opening his front door and being face to face with Kim Dongyoung himself. Or more like Johnny’s chest, which is what he actually saw when he finally built up the courage to open up.
“Hey Taeyong! Can we come in?”
By ‘we’, Johnny of course meant the tall, but not quite as tall as Johnny, man standing just behind him, with his hair in his eyes and hood drawn up over his head.
“Yeah of course, right this way.”
No-one would blame Taeyong for staring at him, so that’s exactly what he did as he sauntered into his living room, finally pulling down his hood and shaking his hair out of his eyes. He wasn’t quite sure what he expected a mafia boss to look like, but certainly not a person who seemed so… cute.
“Dongyoung, this is Taeyong, the man who you’ll be staying with until the court date. Taeyong, this is Dongyoung. Outside of here, however on the outside, he’s Gongmyung to you.”
Taeyong quickly stepped forward and extended his hand out, but when Taeyong looked up at him, gone was the image he had before. A smirk had settled on his face, eyes clearly wandering up and down his form before stepping aside and leaving him standing with his hand in the air.
“So, where will I be staying then?”
Taeyong blinked at him a couple times, but then shook his head before stepping forward. Really, the behaviour should have been expected. Why would he think that a mafia boss would be any where near respectful towards him? He continued walking forward through the lounge and past the kitchen to the room on the left, opening the door for him and stepping aside. Dongyoung walked into the room and looked around, eyes landing on the bed and scoffing.
“I guess this will do.”
“Well you don’t have a choice, so get used to it.”
The words were out of Taeyong’s mouth before he could stop them, resulting in two pairs of eyes landing on him. He didn’t regret it, though. He was doing Dongyoung a favour, keeping him safe from the people who surely wanted his head. The least he could do was be civil towards him. Dongyoung’s smirk grew bigger before he walked up to the doorway, looking over him.
“Yeah, I guess I do, So I’ll do that right now! Thanks for everything, Johnny.”
And just like that the door was closed in his face. Taeyong couldn’t help but turn to Johnny in pure disbelief, who only offered an arm around his shoulder and a small smile before walking towards the door.
“I’m sure it’s just something to do with not used to being looked after or something like that. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll warm up to each other eventually and if not… well, at least it’s not permanent. Yuta will be coming to watch him at 9 tomorrow when you go to college.”
They had reached the door front door and Johnny turned back to him.
“You’ll be fine.”
Taeyong sure hoped so.

Part 1 • Part 3
Just so that I can get a feel of where to post it, I have a DoTae/TaeDo witnessprotection!au in the works and it’s going to be written out.
How many of you guys would be interested in that or should I just post it on Ao3?
Prologue
Sun & Moon DoTae witnessprotection!au (1/?)
“What do you mean you can’t take it?”
Taeyong looks to his right at Johnny sitting next to him. They were currently watching a movie with pizza boxes on the coffee table in front of them. It had been too long since they had last seen each other to talk, Johnny rushing over straight from work as soon as he found out Taeyong was free. However, he should have known that talking with Johnny wouldn’t be simple. It never was. Trying to fill him in on his latest life choices either ended with a philosophical speech (some ideas given to him by Ten) or Johnny laughing at him. Right now, Taeyong was in the mood for neither.
“I mean I can’t take the cooking course. It’s unpaid, and it runs when I’m supposed to be working. Plus, it’s too short notice to try and find another job, and I have rent to pay.”
He had dreamed of becoming a chef for a while now, especially after having been nagged by his friends to do something with his cooking pretty much after every meal he made for them. Following his Mum around the kitchen as a child had just been a thing he picked up on, slowly starting to cook things by himself just for fun. He knew whatever he made tasted good and that he loved doing it, but the realisation of his dream had come a little too late. Already graduated from high school and college, he didn’t have the grades in the right subjects to go to culinary school, and it was too expensive to go through college all over again. So, you can understand how excited he was to see an ad for a free course at a local college. Maybe he shouldn’t have been so quick to tell his friends about it, because now he’s left with telling them it’s just not possible.
“What if… what if I had something available for you?”
“Johnny I can’t work for the police-“
“No, you wouldn’t have to! Have you heard about the mafias in Daegu?”
Taeyong nodded his head slowly, who hadn’t? There always was something in the news about another bloodbath occurring due to deals gone wrong or someone stepping into the wrong part of town.
“Their police department had this whole operation going on, managed to grab one of the bosses. He’s willing to come forward as a witness so that they can get a warrant to arrest the other boss as well.”
“…Right, so what does that have to do with me?”
He got a glimpse of Johnny rolling his eyes before he ended up bending over the arm of the couch, rifling through all the papers in his bag.
“So, he’s a high-risk witness. People from his own mafia plus the other group will try to come after him if word gets out that he’s pretty much ratting them out. They want to transfer him over to us, so we can place him into witness protection.” Johnny finished rifling through his bag and handed him a pile of papers before placing a pen on top. “Fill that in and I can make sure you get chosen.”
“Wha- Johnny, I don’t want people coming after me!”
“And they won’t! A guard will arrive to keep watch on him whilst you’re at college and we’ll have people watching your building. Nobody but my team and I know about it, everyone on the outside thinks the Daegu department are still holding him for questioning. He’ll get a new name and just be… whatever you want him to be. A new roommate to help with rent, perhaps? It just means you’ll get paid to keep someone in your apartment whilst you go and try to live your dream.”
Perhaps if Taeyong thought more about it, he wouldn’t have started filling in the papers. But, the idea had now been placed in his head that maybe, just maybe he had a chance of following what he wanted to do. If that meant keeping a highly dangerous criminal in his apartment, well, maybe Taeyong was just hopeless enough to do it.
