oh man, it’s wild to think about how much of Cleo—especially early on—might be tied up with Dot’s memory and feelings for their friend from the Coenobium. With their friend’s storybook being one of the most thrilling experiences of their life and Cleo showing up looking like a fairytale princess, and their friend’s glowing blue algae and Cleo’s blue-green bioluminescence, Cleo must have been so magical to them, and I have to wonder if meeting her felt like fate or an emotionally confusing reminder or both.

this part makes me laugh because Cleo, who’s had her lights all her life and is clearly quite attached to them, is so “*shrug emoji* they’re just lights!” meanwhile Dot, who has known Cleo for only a few months and who had very poor vision the entire time her lights were visible before this, is like “I can tell you about Cleo’s lights. I will tell you about Cleo’s lights and maybe wax a bit poetic about it.”
