Okay so after the most recent Archon Quest, I'm convinced that Scaramouche never actually wanted to be a god. Ever. It was all Dottore.

The way Dottore spoke to the traveler, trying to manipulate them by any means necessary--I imagine that is exactly how he spoke to Scaramouche. I imagine that Scaramouche, who was severely broken and mentally unwell after the Boy's death, didn't have the mental fortitude to fight against such manipulative tactics. He ate them up instead, desperate to find meaning in his otherwise miserable existence.

Furthermore? I don't think Scaramouche was violent on his own behalf either. I used to think the torture he endured made him lash out violently, like an abused kid lashing out at school--but now I see it more as, again, Dottore invoking that violence within him. Encouraging him to hurt, just like how he tried to convince the traveler to let go of their morals and hurt innocent people for their own selfish gain. So Scaramouche is less an abused kid lashing out and more like a non-sexually groomed soldier, guided down the path of violence and hatred by someone who just wanted to use him for his own benefit.

In short: I don't think Scaramouche truly consented to a single god damn thing that happened to him. He never wanted this, but he was made to believe he did by a man who merely wanted to hurt him.

It's so fucked.
