Double chicken mango tostada from El Pollo Loco’s under 500 calorie menu.

I’ve been kind of obsessed with El Pollo Loco since I read that Brad Pitt’s first job was to dress up as the chicken mascot and dance in front to attract customers. Then when I moved out here I noticed that the Mexican construction workers on my sites seemed to be really into it. It started me wondering if it was really authentic or just really cheap.* I’ve been listening to the Doughboys podcast lately and it sent me on a wikipedia spiral of chain restaurants where I discovered that El Pollo Loco was actually started in Mexico.

So today, in my post-gym protein hunt, I finally tried it and it was AMAZING!

*Then again a lot of Latinos in SoCal love Taco Bell and Del Taco as much as their white stoner counterparts and I have been known to indulge in a cheeky Orange Chicken occasionally so let’s not read too much into it.
