It Was All Yellow

Have you ever felt connected to a color? I’m not just talking “Oh! That color is super pretty and I really like it.” I’m talking about feeling connected to a color so much so that you can almost feel it in your soul. That was me today with the color yellow.
The sun was shining without a cloud in the sky. I felt vibrant, happy, and inspired to be creative. Before I knew it, everything was yellow. This color was all over my insta feed, in every direction I looked while out running errands, and in places that I did not expect. It was in nature, in clothing, in cars/advertisements/packaging..even the cereal I’m eating right now is yellow. (shout out to all my Capt. Crunch lovers!)
It’s true that this was kind of a surprise to me. I have to be honest, I’ve never really resonated with the color yellow. It hasn’t ever been on my list of fave colors, or my first choice when presented with other options, but I found myself absolutely loving it today. I realized that I had been too harsh on this color for most of my life, and after doing some research, I have a new respect and appreciation for yellow.
Keep on readin’ and you’ll see why.
Third Chakra
The third chakra, or the Solar Plexus, is associated with the color yellow and the element of fire. In sanskrit, this chakra is called Manipura which comes from mani: gem and pura: city. This is why you may hear this chakra being referred to as “the city of jewels.” The solar plexus is located in the abdomen, just above the navel. It is often depicted as the symbol shown above. The flower shape signifies life, rebirth and spiritual awakening.
This energy center is focused on self confidence, self love, identity, willpower, and physical and emotional power. When balanced, one will feel confident in themselves and aligned with who they are at their core. When imbalance occurs, one can feel self conscious/an inflated sense of self, experience digestion issues, have a victim mentality, and/or anxiety.
**This is just a brief overview of the solar plexus. If you are unfamiliar with the 7 main chakras and how they interact within the human body, I am planning a more in depth series on what they are and how you can balance their energies!
Spiritual Meaning
Yellow signifies: happiness, positivity, curiosity, manifestation, creativity, joy, optimism, and energy.
Take Action!
Dougall Fraser, an expert in color therapy and well known clairvoyant/psychic, connects the color yellow to higher intellect and accomplishment. I was led to a podcast on Hay House Radio where Dougall focuses on yellow, and how you can connect to this beautiful color (check it out here: YELLOW). If yellow is calling to you, it may be the universe giving you a slight nudge to take action in your life! This is actually perfect for me today, because I’ve been feeling a pull to do some writing and other creative projects, but I was avoiding it based on some major self judgement; aka “you can’t do that because...” So thank you, universe, for sending me the color yellow today, and for leading me directly to the podcast I needed to hear. I also want to thank you, Dougall, for sharing your gifts with the world. I know there are many of us who appreciate it!
Connect with Yellow
If you feel a pull to connect with this color, you can do so in a variety of ways!
Meditation: Get yourself in a comfortable position and spend a few minutes focusing on your breathing to clear your mind and get centered. When you feel ready, imagine the color yellow in whatever form it comes to you. You could imagine a ball of yellow light, bananas, yellow hearts, or anything that you associate the color yellow with. When I work with color, I like to start by imagining a room or space that consists of various shades of the specific color I’m channeling. What I imagine is much like the picture at the top of this post. My meditation usually transforms from there, but creating a space in my mind allows me to connect and helps me get into my meditation. You can use these methods, or create one of your own! Just do whatever feels natural or comfortable for you.
Eat Yellow: This may sound silly, but I think this is a fun way to connect with a color. Eat foods that are full of the color yellow, like bananas, pineapple, or lemon drop candy. Drink lemon water, or create a fancy drink like mint lemonade. I love cooking with turmeric and yellow curry for their flavor, but also because of how pretty they make your food. You can even chew on some juicy fruit gum if you’re not a fan of ingesting yellow.
Wear Yellow: Slap on your favorite yellow jewelry or clothing. You could have a lot of fun with this if you’ve got a variety of yellow items in your wardrobe. Go all out, or be subtle in how you wear this color. The choice is yours!
Create with Yellow: This color signifies creativity, so what better way to honor that than to create something with yellow as a central color? Paint, draw, knit something yellow, create a bomb makeup look with yellow products, or paint your nails yellow. The options are only limited by your imagination.
Sunshine: This is probably my favorite way to experience and connect with the color yellow. Not only is sunlight good for your mood, but humans get a solid dose of vitamin D from sunlight on our skin. Be careful though, catching some rays without the proper protection can damage your skin. Wear a good sunscreen, reapply when necessary, and monitor how much time you’re spending soaking up that vitamin D.
