Fight or Find Balance, Part 2
Danny rushed to the Far Frozen at breakneck speeds. He’s pretty sure he broke his own record; it didn’t matter. None of it mattered. Not until he could get his family back.
He was getting his family back and he was using those miracu-somethings to do it.
Danny finally saw the edge of the Far Frozen as he turned a corner around a haunt. He upped his speed another notch.
Frostbite spotted him approaching, lifting his hand to wave, “Great one! How nice to-“
Danny didn’t stop, didn’t even pause to ask permission, he needed that map.
He wove through the corridors, barely registering the twists and turns until he came to the treasury room. He flew into the room, eyes focused on his goal-
And immediately got clotheslined by the staff of a spear.
“Great One!” Frostbite’s voice echoed from down the hall in conjunction with pounding footsteps.
The yeti that’d stopped him looked down at him with something akin to regret. “I apologize for the rough treatment. I am Ygirr, Great One. Lord Frostbite will be here soon to explain.”
Danny snarled at him, “I don’t need his explanation, I need the infinity map!”
“Daniel.” A sharp voice cut him off, forcing Danny to look back at the infinity map. Clockwork now stood in front, blocking it from Danny’s line of sight.
“Clockwork, what the hell are you doing here, why won’t they let me use the infinity map!?”
Something in clockwork’s eyes softened as he shifted into an old man, “They won’t let you because I told them not to.”
“Then go back and save them yourself! I know you can! You have the power to do it!”
Clockwork was a baby now, and then a normal man again, “It is not about if I have the power to do it. There are many constraints that even I bow to in this world, Daniel.”
“Clockwork is correct, young one,”
Danny whipped his head around look to Frostbite who now stood in the doorway, “It is not our place nor is it right to mess with the ways of the world. And I will not let you use the infinimap to do it.”
“You can’t stop me!” Danny yelled. They had betrayed him! Both of them! How could they not understand what he was trying to do?!
“I know you want to save your family but -“
“I’m not just going to save them! I’m going to make everything right again! All of it! I’m going to fix it!”
Frostbite’s eyes shifted to look behind Danny, he gave a small, relenting nod.
Danny barely had time to turn around before a mass of glowing green chains slammed into his chest.
“What is this-What did you do, Clockwork?!” He couldn’t even lift himself up, the chains weighing him down.
“Daniel Fenton-Phantom, Second of Your Kind and Halfa Prince of the Infinite Realms, I bind you! To this time and to this earth! Until you fight with balance once more, these chains shall remain!” Clockwork swung his staff to point at him, the gears on it turning. The green chains starting shrinking and absorbing into his skin, until there was nothing left but a faintly glowing gear-shaped lock. It faded too.
A heavy furred hand settled on his shoulder, “It for the best, Great One. We only want you to heal.”
Danny couldn’t think. If what clockwork said was true… he couldn’t go back in time… he couldn’t find the miraculous things, he couldn’t make his wish, he couldn’t fix it. He couldn’t fix it. He couldn’t. Fix. It.
Danny shoved Frostbite away, not even caring that he flew into the wall. Cracks echoed out across the structure. He knew his eyes would be glowing, Danny didn’t care, he couldn’t see past the green haze himself.
“How dare you say you want me to heal! You know nothing! You spend all your time in the Zone! You’re just a ghost! You don’t know what I lost, you don’t even know me!”
“Daniel!”
“Don’t call me that!” Danny whipped around to shout at Clockwork, “You don’t get to call me that after you practically killed my parents and then refused to save them! I’m Phantom!”
Clockwork’s child form stood his ground, “You cannot use the miraculous like this, Danny. They are totems of balance, not desperation.”
Are.
Are.
Are.
Present tense.
The miraculous still existed. Clockwork knew where they were. They still existed. He still had a chance.
“You were right about one thing, you big Hourglass,” Danny tapped into the ice that had buzzed in his core since arriving here, “I am desperate. Very desperate.” He shot the eye beams into the gears in Clockwork’s chest and leapt for the Infini-map.
There wasn’t enough time. He didn’t know if the ice would work. How long Frostbite would be down. If he could win against both of them.
One thing he did know though, he had to save his family.
“Infinimap, take me to the miraculous.”
