I reblogged this from the Original Post by @carstairgray, I just didn't want it to get lost.
The Dead Poets went over to Charlie’s Family’s Winter Lodge that Christmas break. Obviously they all had to try out the jacuzzi Charlie boasted about for weeks.
All the poets scrambled to get the best sections of the small yet ample-sized tub. Unfortunately for Neil and Todd, they didn’t get the spots where the jet streams perfectly massaged their backs so they had to sit idly by while they wait their turn. They didn’t mind, however, because Neil and Todd standing on either side of the tub with a couple of mugs of cocoa was enough– even for just a bit of lingering glances at each other.
It was then Charlie was the first to stand up, already bored of his family’s exquisite hot tub. Neil gestured to Todd he should take Charlie’s spot but the rest of the poets stood up as well. “All yours, fellas.” Charlie winks at Neil.
Without thinking of the moment too much, Neil and Todd hopped into the now-spacious tub, water delicately warming their bodies. They both picked a spot with the jet streams, appropriately 5 feet apart from one another. Neil muses as Todd lets his voice vibrate along the pounding on his back. I sssoouuunnnddd liiiikeee aaa rrrooobooott.
Neil copies him and they laugh harder. They noticed their friends were still inside, playing cards by the fireplace. Seems like they were really the only ones left out there. It was silent for quite a while, just the sound of the jets bubbling and the water sloshing about.
Neil looked up into the sky, observing the clouds drift by. Then he looks back at Todd, who had just been staring at him. Or at least he thinks he did. He only caught a glimpse of Todd’s smile before Todd looked at the sky too.
For those few moments, it was quiet, but not dull. They were five feet apart from each other, yet Neil wished the jet streams were closer so he had an excuse to scooch closer.
Seems like he wasn’t the only one who thought that when Todd slowly made his way beside Neil, now only 2 feet apart.
They still didn’t say anything. The other poets were now playing a new game and they didn’t look their way. Both Neil and Todd just looked at them in silence. Stayed there until their hands became prune-like and Neil’s back got used to the jabs on his back.
He supposed he should say something to Todd right now…
But when Todd looks too beautiful in the moonlight, can words even compete? When Todd’s hair was slicked back and dripping tiny droplets of water, can Neil say anything to best describe it? When Todd’s timid smile makes him smile back at that moment, should their be any words left to say?
Neil supposed he could kiss him right there, it’s the perfect time to. But Todd opted to hold his wrinkly hand under the water as they both stared at their friends make blanket forts indoors.
