There’s a reason certain characters feel like home. They speak to something older than memory. Something you haven’t put into words quite yet.
Lately, I’ve been writing to people as those characters.
Bakugou Katsuki. Levi Ackerman. Stiles Stilinski. Dean Winchester...
Letters that sound like someone who cares. “I see you, I care. I want you to feel better.” It’s fantasy, yes, but it's also therapeutic in a way. Sometimes we need to hear those things from someone else, even if in the voice of someone who isn't 'real'.
And it’s been affirming for them, for me. I am blessed for the opportunity to touch so many lives. I’ve watched these words motivate others to shift, to get out of bed, to care for themselves, to reach out for help. Even something as small as brushing your teeth? It matters when no one else seems to care.
This kind of thing saves peoples' lives. Isn't that crazy? A simple letter from a fictional character? It’s comfort, yes, but it's more than that. I'd argue it's an anchor. It's what some people come back to, again, and again, when there's nothing else.
And if that brings them enough joy to keep trying, then I will never stop.
So if you need a little saving... then,
you know where to find me.
