Update on “Citizen Liberty”, guys!
Allow me to announce the core cast of characters. I already mentioned some of them but it definitely wouldn’t hurt.
I might make more detailed (spoiler-free) posts about the main characters, if you’re interested of course.
Simple. This story isn’t just to show my family what I can do with my writing, but also for all the wonderful and supportive people in the Frev community and among the Neighbors. Think of it as a journey or an adventure from a simple premise to the finished story.
Anyway, let’s look at who is in our core cast, shall we?
Violet Parigny (OC) - She is the protagonist. Korean on the mom’s side, but French on the dad’s, she can pass for a fully European girl and she is currently fifteen years old and has a lot of energy. Too bad she uses it to be a delinquent. Violet has a boyfriend called Zane.
Emilie Parigny (OC) - Violet’s sister who is two years her senior. Emilie is under a lot of pressure due to various reasons, like the death of the family’s father, the busy and dangerous job of the mother and the delinquent ways of her younger sister. She doesn’t participate in the adventure itself but has a pretty important role in the story.
Sophie Parigny (OC) - Violet and Emilie’s mother. She comes from Daegu (South Korea) and her Korean name is Seung-ah. Sophie is a firefighter and constantly worries about her daughters because she can die on duty and she doesn’t want them to be left with no parents.
Nicolas Parigny (OC) - Violet and Emilie’s late father. He and his parents came to Boston from Paris. He died of kidney failure a few years before the story. However, Violet talks to him in her dreams and he still has an impact on the story and on his family so he is a posthumous character.
Michelle Yeong (OC) - Violet and Emilie’s cousin on their mother’s side. Michelle is frequently bullied but her cousins defend her so she is one of the few people who believe that Violet isn’t actually a bad person.
Mr. Jack Donovan (OC) - Violet’s Science teacher who tasks her with helping him out in a special time traveling Science project. Why? We’ll see.
Maximilien Robespierre (Real Person) - The infamous and controversial revolutionary Violet blames for the deaths of two of her ancestors. But when he and Violet have to cooperate to escape from bandits, she is forced to question her perception of the guy.
Charlotte Robespierre (Real Person) - Maximilien’s younger sister. Currently she is distant from her family but Maximilien’s ordeal may just be the push she needed to repair the relationship with her family.
Augustin Robespierre (Real Person) - Maximilien and Charlotte’s younger brother. At first, he seems like a laidback womanizer who only wants to have fun, but he is much more than meets the eye.
Charles Parigny (OC) - Violet’s direct ancestor who has seemingly been framed and condemned to the guillotine by Robespierre. But not everything is as it seems here. Charles is from a poor aristocratic family and came from the (very much real) town of Parigny. He was Charles de Parigny but dropped the particle “de”.
Marianne Parigny (OC) - Charles’s oldest daughter and also his firstborn child. Marianne is a flutist who lives in Paris. Unfortunately, Violet knows that Marianne will soon be unjustly executed too so she is trying to help her. Little does she know, Marianne has a few aces up her sleeve and is more than just a pretty and innocent musician.
Louis Desaix (Real Person) - A talented young military man who is arrested later in the story. He is a childhood friend of Marianne’s and knows what truly hides behind that young woman’s naïve facade. Desaix is from a poor noble family but fights on the side of the Republic. He is beloved by his subordinates, which is why it took so long to have him arrested, yet it seems like he has also been framed...
Dominique Larrey (Real Person) - A surgeon who always does his best to help friend and foe, as he doesn’t discriminate when it comes to his patients. He is friends with Desaix and they both get arrested on false charges. But why and who is the true culprit?
Antoine Saint-Just (Real Person) - a member of the National Convention. Although he has the reputation of Robespierre’s second-in-command who did nothing of importance, that couldn’t be further from the truth. It seems like he is not entirely buying the fact that the Parigny family, Larrey and Desaix are actually guilty.
Zane Murphy (OC) - Violet’s boyfriend. He is the same age as Violet and also a delinquent. However, maybe there’s more to this “punk with an attitude” ™️ than meets the eye. Maybe, just maybe, he still has a chance to prove himself.
Note: Although Desaix and Larrey were both in hot water with the government in reality, this trial is an entirely fictional one as this is the work of someone messing around with history for unknown reasons.
Robespierre’s capture courtesy of the bandits is also fictional, but that one isn’t the villain’s work.
