While I love Granada Holmes’s scandalized reaction to Mortimer asking for Holmes’s skull, I find it infinitely funnier that in canon he just goes “OMG you’re a nerd just like me 🤩”

Rewatched Granada Hound of the Baskervilles yesterday and Sir Henry knows what’s what.
I will be forever grateful if you drew soviet Dr. Mortimer ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Main girl loser of the show, welcome the little guy

Doing my annual spooky season read of The Hound of the Baskervilles and I know those old men liked to pepper phrenology into their books but this one might be a bit overseasoned. Good god Mortimer shut up about the shape of people's skulls. Your desire to possess Holmes's skull may be shared by every person who knows who he is but that is BESIDE the point. Stop talking about phrenology.
"It is not my intention to be fulsome, but I confess that I covet your skull."
I am currently rereading The Hound of Baskerville, and I feel like the Sherlock Holmes Fandom or the Fandom of the old books doesn't talk enough about this quote or Dr Mortimer in general.
People say Holmes is supposed to be an odd fellow, but straight up the first thing this guy does when meeting Holmes is complimenting his skull and wanting to touch his face.
And he's such a loveable weirdo too, who cares so much for his doggo, his wife and Sir Henry, it's so oddly endearing to me, and the way Watson is able to distract him with a simple question about skulls.
Him being able to talk about his passion/special interest for hours and him being clumsy as hell that he keeps forgetting his walking cane made me love him the first time I opened this book and the fact no one ever mentions him almost makes me sad, lmao
Just putting it out there: it is not impossible to add a new Molly type character to coming Sherlock Holmes adaptations. Moftiss and Louise Brealey created an original character together, yes, but there was already a very similar character in the canon.
I'm thinking of Dr Mortimer from The Hound of the Baskervilles. He was an awkward but clever surgeon/coroner with a morbid fascination for Holmes's brain. He was solidly on the good side and was helpful to all of his friends. He had impressive skills of deduction, but could also be a bit ditzy.
“Snoopy has disappeared. He went to the moor and never came back.”
First time drawing Doctor Mortimer from the Soviet version of Sherlock Holmes!
