Dr. Zaius had dedicated his life to being a beacon all things holy.
He was the keeper of truth, the protector of ape civilization, the last bastion standing between order and chaos. And yet—here he was, in his office, caught in the intense gaze of a human woman, his heart racing, his breath uneven.
This was unacceptable.
She shouldn’t have this effect on him. She was beneath him, just a mere creature—a remnant of a past that should have been long forgotten.
And yet...
She dared to challenge him, time and time again, she refused to submit, refused to bend, refused to accept her place.
She wouldn’t stop looking at him, right at his eyes, fearless as if she understood something he didn’t, as if she had already claimed victory and when she spoke, her confidence rattled him.
“That’s the problem with you, Dr. Zaius. You talk about reason, control, civilization—” She stepped closer, almost trapping him against his desk. Far too close for Zaius' peace of mind. “You think you have it all figured out—” Her voice softened with a teasing lint, something his brain detected as dangerous.
Another step forward.
“And yet—” Even closer. “You’re shaking.”
Zaius felt something snap. His cane clattered to the floor as he seized her—rough, desperate, his fingers digging into the meat of her arms as he pushed her against the wall of his office.
She gasped, surprised yet she didn’t resist. Instead, she just watched him, smug and expectant with a devilish smile, daring him to act.
His breath came in quick bursts, his body igniting with a feeling he wouldn’t quite name (for his sake).
“You have no idea what you’re toying with,” he hissed. Her lips curled into a smirk.
“Then enlighten me.”
Zaius growled—a deep, frustrated sound that rumbled from his chest. She should have been scared.
She should be.
But instead, she just stood there, waiting. Waiting for him to crack. His grip on her arms tightened as he surged forward, his mouth crashing onto hers in a kiss that was anything but tender.
It was a battle.
Teeth clashed, heat radiated, and fire ignited. She gasped against him, but she didn’t back down. No—she fought back, kissing him like she owned him, like she had already won, like she knew exactly the effect she was having on him.
And Zaius loathed her for it.
He despised how soft her lips felt. Despised how perfectly her body fit against his. Despised her warmth and how her hands tangled in his hair.
The memory of that evening – of what could have happened if he had given in– plagued him, so much so that he felt the need to clear his mind every time his mind astrayed from the scrolls.
Dr. Zaius had been drowning in troubling thoughts for days, haunted by the lingering memory of her scent, her voice, her very presence. It was simply unacceptable—
She was a distraction he couldn’t afford. He took pride in his unshakeable control, yet somehow, she had unraveled him. So, after days of torturous memories and destroyed scrolls, he decided to seek refuge in the sauna, hoping to sweat out these unholy desires that clung to him. But as he stepped inside, the heavy wooden door thudded shut behind him, and he froze. There, enveloped in the golden mist, was her.
Her silhouette was a vision of forbidden beauty, her skin glistening with sweat, hair damp and cascading over her shoulders...
Dr. Zaius felt his stomach drop as her voice caressed his ears.
"You look tense, Doctor" she purred, her voice a sultry whisper in the warm air. "Good evening".
He swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry. "What are you doing here?" His voice came out hoarse, betraying his struggle to keep his composure. She shifted, stretching lazily, her movements highlighting every soft curve that Zaius was trying really hard not to stare at.
"Same as you," she smirked. "Relaxing."
Zaius' heart raced in his chest. This was wrong. Yet, his body betrayed him, fingers curling into fists as he fought against the primal urge clawing at his restraint. His knuckles white from how hard he was clutching the towel infront of him. She tilted her head, watching him with a knowing gaze.
"You’ve been avoiding me," she said softly. "For the past few days, really"
"Nonsense," he snapped, though his words lacked conviction. "That's ridiculous"
She stood and stepped closer, the intoxicating scent of warm skin and damp heat enveloping his senses.
"You’re a terrible liar." Zaius flinched as her fingers brushed against his forearm—light as a whisper, yet it felt like fire coursing through him.
After what felt like an eternity but were just mere seconds she spoke again...
"Tell me the truth," she breathed, her eyes searching his. "Do you think of me, Dr. Zaius?"
His jaw tightened. "I think of many things."
She hummed softly. "And do those thoughts keep you up at night?"
His silence spoke volumes. She took another step, her lips just inches from his ear, her breath sending shivers down his spine. Her soft body so close to his–
"I dream of you too."
A sound escaped him—half growl, half moan—as the last threads of his restraint snapped.
Those words had just shattered him.
Zaius could feel his heart pounding in his ears. This was so wrong. But his body had other ideas; his fingers curled into fists as he struggled against the primal urge that clawed at his self-control. She tilted her head, observing him with a gaze that seemed to see right through his mask of rightoutness.
A sound escaped him—part growl, part moan—as the last remnants of his sanity crumbled. He reached out, gripping her waist and pulling her tightly against him. "You are dangerous," he rasped, pressing his forehead against hers.
Dr. Zaius was completely at her mercy. His hands shook as they glided over her bare back, his fingertips tracing the soft curves of her waist that had filled his thoughts and dreams for so long. He had envisioned this moment—envisioned her so many times that it made his ears blush thinking about it, but nothing could have prepared him for the reality of her beneath his touch.
His breath was barely a whisper against her skin, yet his hands didn’t falter in their worship.
He had spent years preaching discipline, condemning humans, condemning the youth that preached for them such as Zira and Cornelius. He feared for their civilization when Taylor showed up, the fear multiplied when her and that man showed up searching for Taylor. But as he spent time with her, when he actually got to know her, awknowledged that she was just as civilized as him-- Then he started fearing for himself.
He had been denying his attraction for her for so long. Yet, now here he was, holding the very essence of his temptation, pulling her closer, his fingers splayed against her hips, marking her as his own as his mind became a battlefield.
This is so wrong.
So blasphemous.
This goes against nature itself.
She is everything you swore against.
And yet—she is yours.
She chose you.
She is surrendering herself to you completely.
Giving her trust--
A sharp breath escaped him as she arched into his touch, her soft lips brushing against his pulsepoint, her nails grazing his chest.
His control, his logic—everything he stood for—was crumbling.
"You… You have broken me," he rasped, his voice strained and raw. Her lips curled into a knowing smile against his neck.
"Then let me put you back together," she whispered, her voice laced with seduction as she guided his wandering hands lower, where he truly wanted to explore. The warmth softness, the wet heat pulsating against his fingers, her scent making him feel faint.
A deep, primal growl rumbled in his chest. No more hesitation. No more restraint.
Dr. Zaius—scholar, leader, zealot—was lost to her now.
Finally. His mind groaned.
The word echoed in his mind like a revelation, a sacred truth he had spent what felt like a lifetime denying. He pinned her against the wooden seats of the sauna. Seeing her beneath him—with him—her body entwined with his in a way that transcended every law, every doctrine, every ounce of reason that once governed his soul. His lips feverishly kissing her neck, making her breath stutter against his ear, her nails leaving half moon marks in his back. Yet he had never felt more alive. His hands roamed over her, no longer trembling with restraint but possessive in their worship. His lips traced her pulse, feeling the frantic beat beneath her delicate skin—her heartbeat, her essence—syncing with his own.
"You are mine," he murmured against her throat, the admission raw, feral and unguarded.
How long had he been battling this? How many sleepless nights had he endured, haunted by dreams of her, only to wake up in anguish, heated, desperate to break free from her grasp?
Yet here she was.
Beneath him.
All around him.
Embracing him as if she were crafted just for him. A shaky breath escaped him as she whispered his name, her fingers weaving through his fur, holding him—grounding him—as her legs wrapped around his waist like a missing piece. His lips caressed her perky nipple, wrapping around them and moaning at the soft warmth mounds that surrounded his head. Her breath became pitched moans, his name falling like a prayer from her lips.
For the first time in his life, there were no rules, no council, no lawgiver, no moral code dictating his choices. Ape civilization wasn't depending on him.
It was just... them.
Just the woman who had unraveled him with a single look, who had shattered the barriers he had spent years building.
"Zaius… look at me." Her voice—soft, breathy, filled with love.
He complied and in her gaze, he found everything he didn't know he craved.
Love. Devotion. Desire.
A future he had never dared to dream of.
His control, his reason—his entire foundation—had crumbled and for once, he didn’t grieve its loss. Instead, he surrendered—completely, utterly—as he embraced her with every bit of love and longing that had been buried deep within him for so long.
Outside, the world remained shrouded in darkness, the last remnants of night giving way to dawn. Yet within their private haven, time felt frozen—irrelevant.
Dr. Zaius lay in the soft glow of the sauna's light, his body exhausted, his mind still spinning from the reality of what had unfolded between them. She was curled up against him, her breath slow and steady, her warm skin beneath his palm as he absentmindedly traced gentle circles along the curve of her back. She looked serene. Content in his arms.
How had he allowed himself to fall so deeply?
He had fought this. Resisted. Condemned himself for even considering it. But she… she had unraveled him. Not with force, not with deceit, but with a patience that had outlasted even his strongest resolve.
His fingers brushed over a faint bruise on her shoulder—his mark. Evidence of the way he had lost himself to her, over and over again, consumed by repressed longing, by the ache of finally having what he had denied himself for so long.
Zaius swallowed thickly.
He had spent his life as the gatekeeper of order, of tradition. A scholar, a leader—one who upheld the ancient laws meant to preserve the sanctity of apekind.
And yet, here he was, holding a human woman as if she were his world.
A deep breath left him, his fingers trailing from her back to her hair, smoothing it away from her face. She was unlike anything he had ever known. Defiant yet kind. Reckless yet wise. She had challenged everything he stood for, yet never sought to break him—only to understand him.
And now, she had him. Entirely. Irrevocably hers.
"Zaius…?"
Her voice was barely but a whisper.
He felt his chest tighten as she stirred in his arms, her lips pressing lazily against his flat nose before she nuzzled into him.
"If you keep thinking so hard, smoke will come out of your ears" she murmured drowsily.
He hummed in response, a small smile quirked his lips as his fingers still idly traced her back.
"Are you regretting this?" she asked softly, barely lifting her head.
Zaius closed his eyes.
Regret?
No.
If there was one absolute truth in this fragile, ever-changing world, it was that...
He could never regret her.
Instead of answering with words, he pressed a soft lingering kiss to her forehead, his hand resting over the small of her back, keeping her flush against him.
"Sleep" he murmured, his voice raw as he murmured her name. "I'll carry you back to Zira's".
She sighed softly, melting back against him. Within moments, her breathing evened out again, her body utterly relaxed in his arms, so vulnerable, so beautifully his.
Zaius remained sitting in the sauna for a long while, watching her, memorizing the way she fit against him. He didn't want to part from her now that they were together.
His world had changed irrevocably.
