So Octavian right?

I just find it hard to believe that he was always an asshole and full of so much hate like what caused him to be like that I need to know. I think to figure that out we need to focus on Jason and Reyna's rise to power first.

So like obviously he wanted to be praetor and maybe Jason or Reyna took that from him but when you think about it, it would've made more sense for the Romans to elect Octavian in the first place right? I'm not really sure about Reyna's age but Jason turns 16 in Mark of Athena? I think? Which means when he became praetor he was probably like 14? Even if he is a Son of Jupiter surely the Romans didn't think it was wise to let a 14 yr old child lead the entire legion. And Reyna probably hadn't been at camp for very long yet right? And in the books we see how easily Octavian is able to sway the opinions of the Romans so...

So maybe something happened that forced them into the role. Maybe it was guaranteed Octavian's originally but then something happened to the former praetors? So maybe the centurions or whoever's next in power goes "ok so we need someone stronger cause obviously they died cause they were weak" cause that's the Roman mindset and they were like "ok the Son of Jupiter, that a given" and nobody questioned it cause they needed a leader ASAP. So maybe they were going over other possibilities and they stop on Octavian and are like "yeah he's good with words and he's our prophet but can he fight?"

And that's the thing. Can he fight? I don't remember seeing a good example of his combat skills in the books, so maybe fighting wise he isn't very good? So they choose Reyna instead cause she's proven to be a good fighter and has great leadership skills.

So they both are elected and ofc they accept because how could the Son of Jupiter deny praetorship that would ruin his image, and Reyna wanted to be taken seriously and continue to fight alongside Jason and that was the pivot point.

Jason and Leo's birthdays are like, barely a week apart so...

Everytime Jason's birthday rolled around, he couldn't help but remember that it was the day Percabeth fell into tartarus. Whilst everytime Leo's birthday rolled around, he despised all the attention he suddenly got. Celebrating just cause you were born? Wasn't that kinda useless?

So instead, they celebrate on Leo's birthday together. Jason can get over the guilt of celebrating the day his friends fell into literal hell, and Leo has someone to share all that unwanted attention with
