Once, there was

a broken heart.

She and he

tried to part it

into three,

but I, 

the heartless said,

“No. Let me break it

into four."

And that’s how

the chambers

are formed-

by breaking something

already broken;

by losing something

to wreck

the same thing

simultaneously,

‘til every piece

shudder, throb,

and transform

into a song.
