“Tell me, Hero.” The villain slowly walked towards them, taking deliberate, even steps. “Do you believe in fate or destiny?”
“Is there a difference?” Hero bit back, trying to hide the cold fear sliding up their back. The villain had become dangerously calm, and these questions seemed out of the blue, even for the villain. Where was this going?
“Yes and no. People always feel trapped by Fate, but Destiny makes them think they have a predetermined reason for being alive. Two sides of the same coin.” The villain stopped a few feet away from them. “Or perhaps, Hero, you believe in free will. Well which is it?”
“Really?” The villain pulled out a gun, aiming it calmly at the Hero. “Because Fate or Destiny would mean you’re supposed to die, here, tonight. But free will means you can try to prevent that, despite your current, grim circumstances. I’m interested to see what your answer is, Hero.”
