âMaybe I handed you the gunââ he allowed, âbut youâre the one who pulled the fuckinâ trigger.â
prompt # 161
âWeâll be okay.â
He didnât know how she could say that.
He didnât know how she could look him in the eye and utter those words without flinching.
He didnât know how she could stand there in front of him, unashamed and unafraid.
He didnât know at all.
prompt # 160
There was a monster in his house.
It dragged its clawed feet on kitchen tiles and wooden floors. It snarled behind thin walls, and rattled at doorknobs.
It ate his food and wasted his drink, but A couldnât do anything to stop it.
There was a monster in his house, breaking his things, scratching his walls, and prowling the dark corners, always watching him.
And A couldnât do anything to stop him.
prompt # 159
âGo ahead.â She smiled, and it was a cruel, mocking thing.
âProve me right.â With each step she took forward, A took another back.
âShow the world just how wrong they were about you, A!â
She threw her head back, and it was almost painful to hear the crazed laughter that escaped her.
âGo ahead and show the world what their precious hero,â she spat, âis really like.â
prompt # 158
And even now, after everything that happenedâeverything sheâd done for himâshe would never be the favourite.
prompt # 157
His mind couldnât help but go back to the years far behind them.
Everything was much simpler back then.
He loved what he loved and he hated what he hated.
Back then, thereâd been no reason to love and hate them in the same breath.
He didnât know if he could say the same thing now.
Homo Algus
by Sophie Prestigiacomo
These swamp creatures are sculptures created by the French sculptor Sophie Prestigiacomo. They can be seen at the Nature of SĂŠnĂŠ in the Gulf of Morbihan (France).
The figures are modeled with mud and seaweed, with the algae drying within the elements. The colors, textures, and âskinâ of the creatures change over time, along with the organic landscape they inhabit. The sculptures offer a chance for onlookers to not only visit the site, but also engage in dialogue about biodiversity and our relationship to these lands.
prompt # 157
A giant door lay before the party.
âOnly one who is worthy may enter,â were the words etched into the arc of the entrance.
The companions all eyed each other hesitantly.
They were a party comprised of: an elven scholar, an honourable knight, a wise princess, a powerful battle-mage, and a young goblin sprout.
They each take a turn to press a hand against the grooves of the door.
It moves for none of them, until the tiny goblin laid a hand on the stone of the gate, and light dripped like golden waters through the engravings.
âEnter, worthy one,â the winds seemed to whisper.
prompt # 156
Your fingers trembled as you hit the play button. The line beeped.
âHey! I hope you get this⌠soon. Somethingâs going on over here, and I know this is really random, but I just wanted to check in on youââ
A strangled, wet laugh burst out of youâbut your spine stiffened at the sound of shrill, distant screaming.
âJeez, I hope you donât hear that. Thereâs some horror house that set up shop down the street. People are saying itâs actually hauntedâŚâ
Their voice trailed off, as though their train of thought had chugged along without themâbut then they forced out a light chuckle. So unlike how they usually laughed (bright, loud, and free).
â⌠but yâknow, I never believed in that stuffââ
And you could see the image in your head, clear as day, of them cramped into a telephone box and shrugging.
God, it was just like them to be so fucking asinine when they could die at any moment. To pretend nothing was wrong when the world was ending.
They always did want to protect you from the worst of life had to offer.
Suddenly their warm voice paused in their rambling, and the shift in tone had you shuffling closer to the receiver.
âHey⌠I donât think Iâll be able to drive out to you this yearââ The screams were definitely getting louderâŚ
ââI just wanted to say, I love you.â
The taste of copper tainted your mouth. The painful sensation of your teeth biting down on your lip stirred you.
âLetâs get married if I can come to town, yeah? Not a fancy spring wedding like everyone else has got going, but itâd be niceâŚâ
You couldnât help the snort that escaped you. You didnât care about whether you got married in the scorching summer or in the barren winterâso long as they were here with you.
Then, they were laughing with you. Not a forced chuckleâbut a brighter, real laugh.
âWho am I kidding? Youâd definitely say no to that kind of proposal,â they muttered.
âI have to go for a whileâI probably wonât be able to call you⌠so stay safe for me? Iâll propose to you properly when I can.â
A pause, and shuffling.
âI love you.â
The line beeped.
Those were the last words youâd ever hear from them.
this was supposed to just be two or three lines of dialogue⌠but it spun out of control! so now we have a whole scene for a prompt.

âI think Iâm in love with herâŚâ A was breathless as the words came out of their mouth.
âOkayââ
ââOkay? Is that all you have to say?â
Bâs mouth was in a flat line as they stared at A who winced and mouthed a âSorry,â waving a hand to beckon the other to continue.
âOkay,â he started, âand what are you gonna do about it?â
prompt # 154
âFuck, heâs hot.â
Aâs exclamation (really, more of an observation if A said so himself) earned him an unimpressed snort.
âHeâs taken. President of debate club and star swimmer were a hot topic on campus last year.â
âThe girl in the sweater? Standing next to himâwith the baseball cap?â
At Bâs distracted nod, A could only sigh as he collapsed onto Bâs shoulders in an over-the-top faint.
âFuck me, theyâre both hot.â
prompt # 153
âYou said we would stick to the plan,â A hissed.
âWell it was a stupid plan!â B looked manic as they picked off materials and tools from the room and shoved them into their pack.
âYou came up with itâ!â
ââTHATâS WHY ITâS STUPID!â
