LA had OJ and other car chases on its expressways, but can LA match this? A man riding his horse on the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94)! He was clearly escorted by a group of motorcyclists. The video is really long, picking up the entire route of the man and his horse, through his arrest by the Chicago cops, but you’ll get the idea after the first minute or so. Regardless of what the press and the politicians are saying, I think it was really cool of this guy to do what he did for the reason he did it.
A man on a horse trotted down the Dan Ryan Expressway on Monday afternoon, slowing traffic and offering an unusual sight during rush hour.
The man appeared to be Adam Hollingsworth, known as the Dreadhead Cowboy, who can be spotted at Black Lives Matter protests on horseback.
Hollingsworth also teamed with Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office to promote the census, galloping around the city to encourage Chicagoans to fill out the census survey.
A video posted Monday to a Facebook page for Hollingsworth shows the horseback ride along the expressway, with police trailing behind.
“I shut down the Dan Ryan, Kids Lives Matter,” he says in the video.
The man on horseback was detained by Illinois State Police, according to news reports.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s office criticized the action in a statement, saying it was dangerous.
“What is clear is that this stunt not only seriously endangered the horse but also the rider and all travelers on the expressway,” the statement said. “There is a right way and a wrong way to call attention to issues of great importance and this stunt was decidedly the very wrong way.”
The horse was taken to Chicago’s Animal Care and Control, Chicago police said.
The mayor’s office said the horse was injured, and Animal Care and Control is working to transport the animal “to a temporary shelter where it can receive proper care.”

The rider appeared to be Adams Hollingsworth, also known as the Dreadhead Cowboy, who posted live video of him riding on the expressway to his Facebook page.
In another post earlier on his Facebook page he wrote, "we focus on kids lives matter this gone keep happening' and told his followers he was going live at 4 p.m., saying, "y'all don't wanna miss this I promise."
Hollingsworth and his supporters said the ride was meant to get the public and politicians' attention to children's needs in the city. They say funding for children's programs, especially in low-income areas, is far from adequate and there is also not enough investment in those communities.
