Not enough people are talking about the LYRICS of Frère Jacques and what it means in the context of Yellowjackets.

Lottie is singing the song to the baby in the dream, almost as if dream!Lottie is trying to get the baby to drink so it will die (eat in a dream, you die. Don’t eat, you live).

The actual old song Frère Jacques is a song about a friar who has overslept and needs to ring the bells. The song is telling him to wake up so that he can ring the bells for the other monks.

Why does he need to ring the bells?

So that the other monks can wake up to pray.

In the context of the scene, the song is literally telling Shauna to wake up and pray to whatever is in the woods. “Wake up and pray to me.” The thing in the woods wants that baby as a blood sacrifice and knows the grief will drive belief.

The cult is about to get much, much worse.
